American Standard 6064051.002 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Does this touchless urinal flush valve need to be wired to power?
No hardwiring and no transformer. The Ultima Selectronic 6064051 comes with a 10-year PWRX battery already installed in the valve body, so it's a self-contained retrofit for a restroom with no power at the fixture.
2) What happens if the battery dies or the water is shut off on a sensor urinal valve?
Two protections on this one. It has a fully mechanical manual override that works with no power at all, so maintenance can flush the fixture by hand. And it's fail-safe: the valve closes automatically if it loses power or water pressure, so you don't get a stuck-open valve running water into a closed building.
3) Is 0.5 gpf enough, and will the flush volume change with my building's water pressure?
The valve flushes at 0.5 gpf (1.9 Lpf), the common low-consumption urinal rate. Pressure compensation holds that volume accurate regardless of inlet pressure, which matters on upper floors of a high-rise or on a system with wide pressure swings where an uncompensated valve over- or under-flushes.
4) We keep getting run-on and constant trickle from our urinal flush valves. Does this one address that?
That's usually debris in the refill orifice. This piston-type valve uses American Standard's DynaClean self-cleaning wiper spring, an integral spring that wipes the refill orifice on every flush to keep it clear and help prevent run-on. On hard or dirty water systems that's the main reason to spec the piston version.
5) Is a piston-type urinal flush valve better than a diaphragm type for my facility?
Piston valves like this Ultima Selectronic use a seal on a moving piston instead of a rubber diaphragm, and this one adds a wiper spring that scrubs the refill orifice each cycle. That combination tends to hold up where water carries grit or minerals. Diaphragm valves are the other common choice and rebuild kits for them are more widely stocked, so if your facility already standardizes on diaphragm parts, switching one fixture to piston means carrying a second set of repair parts.
6) Can I use this valve on a water closet instead of a urinal?
No. It's a urinal flush valve at 0.5 gpf with a 3/4 inch top spud connection. A water closet needs a 1-1/2 inch spud and a much higher flush volume, so you'd need a closet flush valve instead.
7) Will the brass hold up on a well or aggressive water supply?
The valve body uses a proprietary brass alloy that resists dezincification, the failure mode where zinc leaches out of ordinary brass and leaves a porous, weak casting. That's the relevant spec for aggressive or chloride-heavy water.
