1) Does the Ultima Selectronic urinal valve need wiring or a transformer?
No hardwiring and no transformer. The PWRX battery is installed in the valve and is rated for 10 years of service, so the rough-in is plumbing only. That's what makes it practical for a retrofit where there's no power at the fixture.
2) What happens to this touchless urinal valve if the battery dies or the building loses water pressure?
It fails closed. On loss of power or water pressure the valve automatically shuts, so you don't get a continuous-run flood. There's also a fully mechanical manual override that flushes the fixture without any power at all, which is the feature that keeps a restroom in service until maintenance gets there.
3) Our urinal flush valves keep running on after the flush. Will this one stop that?
Run-on is usually a fouled refill orifice in the diaphragm or piston. This valve is piston-type and uses DynaClean, an integral wiper spring that scrubs the refill orifice on every flush. In hard or dirty water that's the specific failure mode it's built to prevent.
4) Can I swap a manual handle urinal valve for this sensor valve without changing the urinal?
Yes, provided the existing fixture has a 3/4 inch exposed top spud and your supply comes out at the 11-1/2 inch rough-in. Because power comes from the battery inside the valve, there's no electrical work involved, which is what usually kills a touchless retrofit in an occupied building. Check that your fixture is rated for a 1.0 gpf flush; an older 1.5 or 2.0 gpf urinal may not clear properly at the lower volume.
5) Is this a urinal valve or a water closet valve? The specs mention toilet.
It's a urinal flush valve, rated 1.0 gpf / 3.8 Lpf. A water closet valve flushes at a much higher volume and uses a larger spud, so don't substitute this one on a toilet bowl.
6) Will the flush volume drop off if our building has low or fluctuating water pressure?
Pressure compensation is built in, so the valve meters the same volume regardless of inlet pressure. On upper floors or at the end of a long branch where pressure sags, you still get the rated 1.0 gpf rather than a short flush that leaves the fixture dirty.
7) What finish and part number do I order for this American Standard touchless urinal valve?
