Bobrick 3803 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Can the Bobrick B-3803 be surface mounted instead of recessed?
No. The B-3803 is a recessed unit only, built to drop into a wall cavity with the door return covering the flange. If the wall will not take a recess (masonry, a shallow partition, or anything under the 5-3/4 inch minimum depth), you need a surface mounted towel dispenser/waste receptacle instead, not this model.
2) Is the Bobrick B-3803 ADA compliant for a public restroom?
Bobrick lists the B-3803 as ADA compliant. Note that compliance still depends on your mounting height and clear floor space at the unit, so set the towel opening within the reach range for the approach at that wall.
3) How many paper towels does the Bobrick B-3803 hold, and does it take multifold?
It holds 600 C-fold, 800 multifold, or 1100 single-fold towels, so it runs multifold without any conversion kit. The built-in TowelMate keeps the stack separated so towels feed one at a time instead of pulling in clumps, which is the main reason facilities pick it for high traffic restrooms.
4) How big is the trash side on the B-3803, and does the liner come out for servicing?
The waste container is 6.3 gallons (24 L), removable, and leak-proof, so a custodian lifts the whole container out rather than fishing a bag from a fixed cavity. Access is through the flush-lock door, so the unit stays secured between service rounds.
5) What finishes does the Bobrick B-3803 come in?
Two: satin-finish stainless steel, which is the standard commercial look, and a matte black finish for jobs where the spec calls for dark hardware. Both are the same stainless steel cabinet and the same rough opening, so the finish choice does not change your framing.
6) Is the B-3803 durable enough for a high traffic or vandal-prone restroom?
The cabinet and door are stainless steel with a satin finish, and the door is secured by flush locks so there are no protruding cylinders to grab or pry. Stainless holds up to the cleaning chemicals used in school, stadium, and transit restrooms better than painted steel, and the concealed flange leaves no exposed fastener heads at the wall line.
7) Does the Bobrick B-3803 need electrical power or batteries?
No power at all. Operation is manual, towels pull by hand, so there is no wiring, no transformer, and no battery change in the service routine. That also means nothing to specify for the electrician on a new build.
