Satco Lighting S11570 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Will the Satco S11570 retrofit downlight fit my existing 5-inch and 6-inch recessed cans?
Yes, the S11570 is built as a recessed retrofit for 5 and 6 inch round housings. The trim measures 7.32 inches in diameter and the body is 3.03 inches tall, so you need at least about 3 inches of depth inside the can above the ceiling plane. It mounts into the existing housing rather than replacing it.
2) Can the S11570 Starfish downlight go in a shower or a covered exterior soffit?
It carries a Wet location rating, so damp and wet interior spots like a shower ceiling are within rating. Satco still lists it as an indoor fixture, so it is not intended for exposed exterior use. For a covered soffit, treat the indoor designation as the governing limit.
3) Does the Satco S11570 need a hub or special wall dimmer to change colors?
No hub is needed. The Starfish IOT platform is built into the fixture and it connects over WiFi, so color and white tuning are handled from the app rather than a wired dimmer or gateway. It is also dimmable and runs on standard 120V, 60Hz line power, so it wires to a normal switched branch circuit.
4) Will the Satco S11570 pass California Title 24 for a new residential job?
No. The S11570 is listed as not Title 24 compliant, so it should not be specified where JA8 certified lighting is required. It does carry cETLus certification, is FCC compliant, and is RoHS compliant, so it is acceptable for general code-listed installation outside of Title 24 jurisdictions.
5) What color temperature range does the S11570 cover, and is the white quality good enough for retail or hospitality spaces?
The white range is selectable from 2000K to 5000K, covering warm amber through daylight, plus full RGB color. Color rendering is 90 CRI, which is the level typically specified for retail display, hospitality, and healthcare finishes where skin tone and merchandise color matter.
6) Is there a bulb to replace in the Satco S11570, or is the LED built in?
The LED is integrated, with an integrated lamp base and no socket to relamp. When the light engine reaches end of life the whole retrofit module gets swapped. It is rated 50,000 average hours, so a space running 12 hours a day works out to roughly 11 years before that point.
7) How is the Satco S11570 downlight housing built, and is it light enough for old ceiling cans with tired springs?
The body and base are aluminum, which handles heat dissipation for the LED driver, and the whole unit weighs 0.57 lb. That is light enough that it does not stress existing housing clips the way a heavier cast trim would.
8) Can I standardize a whole building on the Satco S11570 if some rooms need different finishes?
The S11570 is offered in one configuration, a white round trim, so every opening gets the same look. For a property manager retrofitting a floor at a time, that single orderable part number keeps the fleet consistent: one MPN, 7.32 inch round white trim, 120V.
