TOTO TBG01001U#CP – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Does the TOTO Modern wall tub spout come with a valve, or do I need to order one separately?
The spout ships on its own. No rough-in valve is included, so you need to order a TOTO tub/shower valve body and trim separately to complete the job. A drain is not included either. What you get in the box is the wall spout with a 1/2 inch NPT connection.
2) What size pipe does the TOTO Modern R tub spout connect to?
It threads onto a 1/2 inch NPT nipple coming out of the wall. That means a threaded connection, not a slip-fit spout that clamps to 1/2 inch copper tube with a set screw. If your existing rough-in is a copper stub for a slip-on spout, you'll need to adapt it to 1/2 NPT male thread before this one will go on.
3) Does this TOTO tub spout have a diverter for a shower head?
No diverter on the spout. It's a plain laminar-flow wall spout, so diversion to the shower has to happen at the valve. If your bath is a tub/shower combination, specify a valve trim with the diverter built in; if it's a soaking tub with no shower, this spout is all you need on the wall.
4) What finishes does the TOTO Modern wall tub spout come in?
Three: Polished Chrome, Brushed Nickel, and Polished Nickel, and all three are offered in both the Modern R and Modern S styles. Order codes carry the finish suffix, so Modern R in brushed nickel is TBG01001U#BN, polished chrome is #CP, and polished nickel is #PN. Modern S uses the same suffixes on TBG02001U.
5) What is the difference between the TOTO Modern R and Modern S tub spout?
They are the two style variants of the same wall-mount spout. Modern R is TBG01001U and Modern S is TBG02001U, and the difference is the spout styling so it matches the rest of the Modern R or Modern S trim in the bath. Both mount to the wall on a 1/2 NPT connection. Pick the one matching the valve trim and faucet you're already specifying.
6) How many holes do I need in the wall for this TOTO tub spout?
One. It's a single-hole wall-mounted spout, so the tile or surround needs one opening for the 1/2 NPT nipple. The escutcheon body is 2.625 inches across, so the finished hole has to sit within that footprint to be covered.
7) Is this TOTO spout durable enough for a hotel or multi-family bathroom?
The body is solid brass with a corrosion-resistant finish, and wall mounting keeps the spout off the tub deck, which makes the ledge easier to wipe down for housekeeping. With one spout shared across three finishes and two styles, it's straightforward to standardize across a property and stock a single replacement part.
8) Why is the water stream on this TOTO spout described as laminar?
Laminar flow means the water comes out as a clear, evenly distributed column rather than an aerated spray. For a tub fill that gives you a quieter, non-splashing stream into the basin. It's the flow style on both the Modern R and Modern S versions of the spout.
