The ultra slim design creates a sleek and modern aesthetic with seamless connection to the toilet bowl. TOTO SS234#01 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the TOTO SS234 SoftClose seat fit a round toilet bowl?
No. The SS234 is an elongated seat only, so it will not sit correctly on a round front bowl. Measure your bowl from the center of the mounting bolt holes to the front rim: an elongated bowl runs longer than a round one, and a round bowl needs a round seat instead.
2) Does the TOTO SS234 toilet seat work with WASHLET+ bowls?
It pairs with TOTO T40 WASHLET+ bowls and covers the WASHLET+ supply channel on the back of the bowl, so the connection looks finished rather than exposed.
3) Do I need to buy mounting hardware separately for the TOTO SS234 seat?
No extra hardware needed. All mounting and installation hardware ships with the SoftClose seat, along with the installation instructions. It uses top tightening mounting bolts, so you can fasten it from above the bowl instead of reaching up behind the china.
4) How thick is the TOTO SS234 ultra slim seat?
Seat height is 0.5625 inch, just over a half inch. That slim profile is why it sits tight to the bowl rim with a low-profile look, and it is worth checking if you are matching the appearance of other seats already installed in a building.
5) Can the SS234 seat be removed for cleaning without tools?
Yes. The SS234 uses a quick release hinge system, so the seat and lid lift off the hinge posts for cleaning around the bolt area and the back of the bowl, then snap back on. For janitorial crews in multi-family or hospitality, that is the difference between wiping around a seat and actually cleaning under it.
6) What is the TOTO SS234 seat made of, and will it hold up to heavy public restroom traffic?
The seat is molded from urea resin, a solid high-impact plastic rather than a padded or wood-core seat. It is a rigid, non-porous material that wipes down with standard cleaners, which is why it holds up in high-use residential and light commercial restrooms.
7) What does SoftClose actually do on the TOTO SS234?
A damped hinge is built into the seat itself. Push the seat or lid toward the bowl and it lowers slowly and quietly instead of dropping, which kills the slam noise and the pinch risk for kids. There is no separate closer to install or adjust.
8) Is the TOTO SS234 a closed front seat with a lid, or an open front seat?
Closed front, and it includes the cover. It ships as a matched seat and lid set in Cotton White (#01), so you are not ordering the lid separately. Note that many commercial code requirements call for open front seats in public restrooms, which this is not.
9) Will the TOTO SS234 wobble on the bowl like my old seat did?
The SS234 was redesigned for a more stable fit with reduced seat wobble, and the top tightening bolts let you retorque it from above if it loosens over time. Most wobble on older seats comes from bolts you cannot reach to tighten.
10) Where can I get install instructions and replacement part numbers for the TOTO SS234 seat?
TOTO publishes three documents for this seat: an installation manual, a parts manual for hinge and bolt replacements, and the specification sheet with the dimensional drawing. All three are posted with the product at ZenSupply.
