TOTO SS224#11 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the TOTO Guinevere SS224 seat fit a round bowl toilet?
No. The SS224 is an elongated seat only, so it will not sit correctly on a round front bowl. It's shaped for elongated front bowls, which are the longer oval bowls common in commercial restrooms and newer residential builds. If the bowls in your building are round front, this is the wrong part and you need a round seat instead.
2) Will the TOTO SS224 SoftClose seat work on a non-TOTO elongated toilet?
Yes. The SS224 is built to match the TOTO Guinevere toilet, but it fits other TOTO elongated models and other brands of elongated toilets as well. What matters is that the bowl is elongated front and uses standard two-hole seat mounting. The seat measures 18.5 by 14 by 2.5 inches, so check that against your bowl's bolt-hole-to-front-rim length before you standardize a building on it.
3) Do I need to buy mounting bolts or hinges separately for the TOTO SS224 toilet seat?
Nothing else to order. All mounting and installation hardware ships with the SoftClose seat, along with installation instructions and care guidelines. The SoftClose hinge is built into the seat, not a separate kit.
4) What colors does the TOTO SS224 Guinevere seat come in, and how do I order the right one?
Five finishes, each with its own TOTO color code in the part number: Cotton White (SS224#01), Bone (SS224#03), Colonial White (SS224#11), Sedona Beige (SS224#12), and Ebony (SS224#51). TOTO uses the same suffix codes on its toilets, so if you're matching an existing Guinevere or other TOTO fixture, order the seat with the same number after the hash and the color will match the bowl.
5) Can the TOTO Guinevere SoftClose seat be installed without reaching up behind the bowl?
Yes, and that's the point of the top tightening mounting bolts. You set and tighten the seat from above the bowl rather than working blind underneath it, which matters when the toilet is tight to a wall or a partition. For a maintenance tech swapping seats across a floor of units, it's a one-position job.
6) Does the TOTO SS224 SoftClose seat need batteries or power?
No power at all. The SoftClose action is a mechanical damped hinge, and the seat contains no battery. It is not a washlet or bidet seat, so there is no receptacle or GFCI needed behind the toilet.
7) Are installation instructions and a spec sheet available for the TOTO SS224 seat?
Both are published by TOTO for the SS224 and come in the box as well. The installation manual covers the top tightening bolt procedure, and the spec sheet gives the seat dimensions for confirming fit against your bowl before you commit to a quantity.
8) How much does the TOTO Guinevere elongated toilet seat weigh?
5.2 pounds for the seat and lid assembly. That's a heavier seat than a thin builder-grade unit, which is what you'd expect from solid polypropylene with a damped hinge, and it's worth knowing if you're ordering a pallet of them for a unit turn.
