TOTO SS214#51 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the TOTO SS214 SoftClose seat fit a round toilet bowl?
No. The SS214 Soiree SoftClose seat is an elongated seat only, and it will overhang and won't bolt up correctly on a round front bowl. It measures 18.75 inches long by 14.25 inches wide by 2.5 inches high. For a round bowl you need a round front seat instead.
2) Does the TOTO SS214 seat only work on TOTO Soiree toilets, or will it fit other elongated toilets?
It was made to match the TOTO Soiree and Eco Soiree, but it also fits other TOTO elongated toilets and elongated bowls from other brands. The deciding factor is bowl shape, not brand: if the bowl is elongated front, the SS214 is a candidate.
3) What color options does the TOTO Soiree SS214 toilet seat come in, and how do I order the right one?
Five colors, each with its own TOTO part number: Cotton White SS214#01, Bone SS214#03, Colonial White SS214#11, Sedona Beige SS214#12, and Ebony SS214#51. TOTO uses the same color suffixes across its toilets, so if you're matching an existing TOTO bowl, order the suffix that matches the bowl's number.
4) Do I need to buy mounting hardware separately for the TOTO SS214 seat?
No, everything to hang it comes in the box. The SS214 ships with all mounting and installation hardware, plus installation instructions and care guidelines. No extra bolts or nuts to source.
5) Can I install a TOTO SoftClose seat without getting behind the toilet?
Yes. The SS214 uses top tightening mounting bolts, so you tighten from above the bowl rather than reaching underneath the rim. That matters on tight installs where the tank or a wall blocks access to the underside, and it speeds up a fleet of swaps in a multi-family or hospitality building.
6) Is a SoftClose seat worth it over a standard toilet seat in a rental or commercial restroom?
The case for it is abuse. A standard seat gets dropped and the hinge, the lid, or the bowl rim takes the impact over and over. The SS214's built-in SoftClose hinge lowers the seat and lid to the bowl slowly instead of slamming, which removes that repeated shock and the noise complaint that comes with it. The seat is solid high-impact, high-gloss polypropylene rather than a thin shell. For a property manager standardizing across units, or a hotel where a slamming lid carries through a wall, that is the reason to spec it.
7) Is the TOTO SS214 SoftClose seat battery powered or does it need power at the toilet?
No power and no batteries. The SoftClose action on the SS214 is purely mechanical, built into the hinge, so there is nothing to wire and no cells to replace. It is not a washlet or a heated seat, just the seat and lid.
8) What material is the TOTO Soiree seat, and how does it hold up to cleaning?
Solid high-impact polypropylene with a high-gloss surface. It's a molded solid plastic seat, not a wood core with a painted skin, so there's no finish layer to chip or lift at the hinge points where wood seats usually fail. The high-gloss surface wipes down, and TOTO packs care and maintenance guidelines in the box.
9) How much does the TOTO SS214 toilet seat weigh?
5.8 pounds. That is a heavier seat than a builder-grade plastic one, which is what the solid polypropylene construction and the damped hinge assembly buy you. Worth knowing if you're carting a pallet of them through a building for a unit-by-unit swap.
