TOTO THP5467#MBL – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What is the TOTO THP5467#MBL part used for?
THP5467#MBL is a TOTO thermostatic mixing valve with a diverter and an ADA-style lever handle, built for shower and tub service. It mixes hot and cold to a set temperature and routes the output between two outlets, such as a showerhead and a tub spout or hand shower.
2) Is the TOTO THP5467 handle trim ADA compliant for a shower in a hospital or hotel?
The handle on THP5467#MBL is a TOTO ADA-style lever, which is the operable-handle type specified for barrier-free showers because it works without tight grasping or wrist twisting. Note this is the trim and handle assembly for a thermostatic mixing valve with diverter, so overall compliance on the opening also depends on the valve body and control height set during rough-in.
3) What finish is TOTO THP5467#MBL?
The #MBL suffix on this TOTO thermostatic mix valve trim is matte black, and that is the only finish this part number is built in. If the other shower trim in the room is polished chrome or brushed nickel, you need the matching TOTO suffix instead, not this one.
4) Do I need a separate valve body with the TOTO THP5467#MBL, or does it include everything?
THP5467 is a TOTO thermostatic mixing valve with diverter and ADA handle for shower and tub service. Thermostatic shower controls in this line are ordered as a rough-in valve body plus the finish trim and handle, so confirm which piece you already have in the wall before ordering so you do not end up with two handles and no body (or the reverse).
5) Should I use a thermostatic mixing valve with diverter or a simple pressure balance valve for a tub and shower?
A pressure balance valve only compensates for pressure swings, so outlet temperature drifts when the incoming hot water temperature changes. A thermostatic unit like the TOTO THP5467 holds a set temperature and, with the diverter built in, also switches flow between two outlets from one control point, which is what you want for a tub and shower combination or a shower with a hand shower. Choose pressure balance only where you want the simpler, lower-cost control and a single outlet.
6) Will the TOTO THP5467#MBL work on a shower that only has one outlet?
It will work, but you would be paying for a function you cannot use. THP5467 is the diverter version, meant to feed two outlets such as a showerhead and a tub spout or hand shower. For a single showerhead with no second outlet, order the non-diverter thermostatic trim in the same TOTO finish instead.
