TOTO THU494 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What is the TOTO THU494 part used for?
THU494 is a TOTO toilet trip lever handle for a right-hand mount, used with a non-hold flush valve tower. It is a toilet repair part, not a complete flush valve assembly, so you order it when the handle itself is broken, loose, or missing on an existing TOTO tank.
2) Is the TOTO THU494 trip lever left-hand or right-hand?
Right-hand. THU494 is the right-hand version of the TOTO trip lever handle, meaning it mounts on the right side of the tank as you face the toilet. If the handle on your tank sits on the left, this is the wrong part and you need TOTO's left-hand trip lever instead.
3) Will the THU494 handle work with a hold-open or tower-style flush valve?
It is specified for a non-hold flush valve tower. On a non-hold tower the flush cycle completes on its own once the lever is pressed, so the handle does not need to hold the valve open. If your TOTO tank uses a different flush valve arrangement, match the handle to that valve rather than assuming this one drops in.
4) I manage a building with several TOTO toilets. Can I stock one trip lever for all of them?
Not safely. TOTO trip levers are handed and matched to the flush valve type, and THU494 is specifically the right-hand handle for a non-hold flush valve tower. In a mixed fleet you will see both left- and right-hand tanks, so stock by handing and by the valve type in each tank rather than treating one lever as universal.
