TOTO THP5243 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What is TOTO THP5243 and what does it do in a faucet or shower valve?
THP5243 is a TOTO 2-way diverter cartridge. It is the internal valve cartridge that routes water between two outlets, for example a tub spout and a showerhead, or a handshower and a fixed head. It is a replacement service part, not a complete valve or trim kit.
2) My TOTO shower won't switch from the tub spout to the showerhead. Is the cartridge the fix?
When the diverter will no longer hold flow at one outlet, or water runs from both at once, the diverter cartridge is the usual culprit before the valve body. THP5243 is TOTO's 2-way diverter cartridge for that repair. Confirm the part number stamped on the old cartridge or listed in your TOTO valve's service parts breakdown, since TOTO uses different cartridge numbers across its valve families.
3) Is the TOTO THP5243 a volume control or a diverter cartridge?
It is a diverter cartridge with a 2-way function, meaning it switches flow between two outlets. TOTO's part number for it is THP5243. If you are trying to throttle flow at a single outlet rather than redirect it between two, a diverter cartridge is the wrong part for that job.
4) Does the THP5243 cartridge come with trim, a handle, or a valve body?
No. THP5243 is supplied as the cartridge only. The handle, escutcheon, trim, and the rough-in valve body stay in place and are ordered separately if any of those are damaged.
5) Is the THP5243 cartridge an exact TOTO replacement or an aftermarket part?
It is the TOTO-branded service cartridge carrying TOTO part number THP5243, so it goes back in as the factory part rather than a generic substitute. For maintenance staff standardizing a property, ordering by that MPN keeps the same cartridge across every TOTO valve of that family.
6) Is there more than one version or finish of the THP5243 to choose from?
No options to pick. The THP5243 diverter cartridge is a single configuration, one part number. Since it sits inside the valve, there is no finish to match to your trim.
