TOTO THP5254 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What exactly is the TOTO THP5254 part, and where does it go in a shower valve?
THP5254 is a TOTO diverter part for shower and tub valves, described as a 3-way off cartridge, diverter. It is the diverter component that routes water between outlets (for example showerhead and tub spout) and shuts flow off, not the pressure-balance or thermostatic mixing cartridge. Order it by the TOTO number THP5254.
2) I manage apartments with TOTO showers that won't shut off or keep leaking to the tub spout. Is the diverter the part to order?
When water keeps running to both the showerhead and the tub spout, or the valve will not fully shut off, the 3-way off diverter cartridge is the usual wear item, and THP5254 is TOTO's replacement for it. Keeping a couple on hand is sensible for a building standardized on TOTO shower valves, since the swap is a parts change rather than a valve replacement. Confirm the valve is TOTO and that the diverter, not the mixing cartridge, is the failing component.
