1) Will the Accentra YA190 indicator kit work on my Yale 8800 mortise lock?
The YA190 indicator kit is built for Yale 8800 Series mortise locks with sectional (rose) trim, and this version includes the cylinder prep for keyed functions. It works with functions 8811-2, 8814, 8814-2, 8815, 8818-2, 8822, 8832, 8840, 8847, 8860, 8860-2, 8861 and 8867. If your 8800 lock uses escutcheon trim rather than sectional trim, this is not the kit for that opening. The lock itself is not included, so this is strictly an upgrade to an existing 8800 or an add-on to one you are ordering separately.
2) I need the lock status visible on both sides of the door. How many YA190 indicator kits do I order?
Two. Each YA190 kit contains a single side indicator plate with mechanism, screw pack, plastic template and instructions, so a door that needs status on both the corridor side and the room side takes one kit per side. The inside trim indicator kit is the room-side half; order the matching outside trim kit for the other face.
3) Does the YA190 indicator fit a 1-3/4 inch door?
Yes, 1-3/4 inch (44mm) is the standard door thickness the YA190 kit is built for, which covers most commercial openings. Kits for thicker doors are a separate build.
4) What do the V01, V03, V04 and V06 indicator codes on the Yale YA190 mean?
They set what the window actually shows on the inside face. V01 and V04 read in words, Unlocked/Locked, in white and red. V03 and V06 are icons only with no text, V03 in green and red, V06 in white and red. Icon versions are the ones to use where you have non-English speakers or young occupants and want the status read without literacy; the word versions are what most classroom and restroom specs call out.
5) Do I need a cylinder with the YA190 indicator kit for a classroom door?
The kit is prepped for a standard mortise cylinder but does not include one. On a keyed function like 8847 or 8867 you supply the mortise cylinder separately, keyed to your facility's system. Restroom and privacy functions that do not take a key on the indicator side need no cylinder even though the prep is there.
6) Do I have to know the handing before I order a YA190 indicator kit?
You pick handing on the order, left or right, but the kit is field reversible. It ships set up as right hand and the handing can be adjusted on site, so a mis-called door in the field does not cost you a return trip to the supply house.
7) Is the Accentra YA190 indicator rated for a high traffic school or hospital corridor?

The plate is brass, bronze or stainless depending on which finish you order.
9) Can the YA190 indicator be engraved with lock direction instructions?
Two engraving options are offered on the YA190: EMA, outside engraving reading "Lock" with an arrow, and EMB, the same "Lock" with arrow on the inside. Or leave it blank. The engraving tells an occupant which way to turn the thumbturn to secure the room, which is worth specifying on lockdown-capable classroom doors where the person operating it under stress may never have used it before.
10) Is a status indicator kit better than swapping the whole mortise lock for an indicator lock?
For an existing Yale 8800 opening, the retrofit kit is the shorter path: you keep the lock body, the door prep and the keying, and change out the trim on one side. Replacing the lock means a new lock body, possible new door prep and re-keying. The kit only makes sense if the lock is an 8800 with sectional trim and its function is on the compatible list; on any other lock or on escutcheon trim you are looking at a lock change instead.
11) Can the YA190 indicator be read from down the hallway, or do you have to stand in front of it?
The window is curved by design so status reads from side angles across a 180 degree viewing arc, not only head on, and the panel carries a reflective coating for low light.
