1) Will the Accentra YA196 indicator kit work on my Yale 8800 mortise lock?
The YA196 indicator kit is built specifically for Yale 8800 Series mortise locks fitted with sectional (rose) trim, and it includes a mortise cylinder prep for keyed functions. It covers functions 8802, 8820, 8822, 8827, 8832, 8840, 8847, 8860, 8861 and 8867 on the inside. If your 8800 lock has escutcheon trim rather than sectional rose trim, this is the wrong kit. The lock itself is not included, this is a trim upgrade only.
2) Do I need one kit or two if I want the lock status visible on both sides of the door?
Each YA196 kit contains a single side indicator plate with its mechanism, plus a screw pack, plastic template and instructions. It covers one face of the door only. For status on both faces you order two kits, one for each side. This particular configuration is the inside trim indicator.
3) Does the YA196 indicator fit a 1-3/4 inch door?
Yes. The kit is built as standard for 1-3/4 inch (44mm) doors, which is the usual commercial door thickness. Thicker doors need a different kit, available on request.
4) Do I have to order the YA196 indicator kit by handing, or can I flip it in the field?
Handing is field adjustable, so an installer can reverse it on site to suit the door. It ships set up as Right Hand. Left-Handed and Right-Handed are both orderable, so if you want it to arrive already matched to the opening, pick the handing that matches and skip the field reversal step.
5) What are the differences between the V01, V03, V04 and V06 indicator codes on the Accentra YA196?
Four inside indicator displays are offered. V01 and V04 both read Unlocked/Locked in white and red text. V03 shows icons only in green and red, and V06 shows icons only in white and red. Icons-only options are the usual pick where the facility has multilingual occupants or wants a wordless restroom or patient room display; the text versions spell the status out.
6) Do I have to replace the whole mortise lock to add a lock status indicator to my Yale 8800 doors?
No. The YA196 is a retrofit trim kit that adds the indicator to 8800 Series mortise locks already in the door, so you keep the existing lock body and cylinder. That makes it the lower cost route to adding privacy and lockdown status across a floor compared with swapping complete locksets. It does require sectional trim and the kit comes prepped for a mortise cylinder.
7) Can I match the YA196 indicator to the existing lever finishes in my building?
Fourteen finishes are offered: 605 bright brass, 606 satin brass, 611 bright bronze, 612 satin bronze, 613E dark oxidized satin bronze equivalent, 618 bright nickel, 619 satin nickel, 625 bright chrome, 626 satin chrome, 629 bright stainless, 630 satin stainless, 693 black painted, plus black and white suede powder coat. 626 and 630 are the two most commonly specified on commercial openings. The plate is made from brass, bronze or stainless steel depending on which finish you order.
8) Is the YA196 indicator rated for a high traffic school or hospital corridor?
It is ANSI/BHMA Grade 1 certified, the heavy duty commercial tier, and is specified for commercial use. Typical applications are classroom doors, patient rooms, nursing and new mother rooms, restrooms, privacy rooms and meeting rooms.
9) What is the EMA or EMB engraving option on the YA196, and do I need it?
Engraving is a separate choice on the kit. EMA engraves "Lock" with an arrow on the outside, EMB engraves "Lock" with an arrow on the inside, and None leaves the trim plain. The arrow tells an occupant which way to turn the thumbturn or key to secure the door, which is why it gets specified on classroom security and lockdown openings.
10) Can the status still be read from down the corridor or at an angle?
The window uses a patented curved design giving a 180 degree viewing angle, so the status reads from the side and not only head on, and the panel carries a reflective coating for low light.
