ACSI 1410-2 Interlock Power Supply

ACSI 1410 Interlock Power Supply is designed to interconnect two or more doors using fail safe locking devices.
Each supply can control up to four doors and the system can be expanded for requirements in excess of four doors.
Any one door can be programmed to be a part of (common to) as many as three separate interlocking systems.
Separate plug-in p.c. boards used to control interlocking doors can be programmed for normally locked or normally
unlocked operation.
Inputs are available for fire alarm and optional emergency release interface for override of the interlocking system.
Applications include darkrooms, laboratories, pharmaceuticals, detention centers, money counting rooms, airlocks,
clean rooms, etc.
ACSI system engineers are available for design and consultation services to coordinate all aspects of the system.
ACSI electric locking systems and all documentation including riser diagrams and point-to-point wiring diagrams can
give distributors a single source for their system requirements.

ACSI 1410-2 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the ACSI 1410 work with my electric strikes and maglocks, or only fail safe locks?
The 1410 interlock supply is built to interconnect two or more doors using fail safe locking devices, so fail secure electric strikes are the wrong pairing here. Output is filtered and regulated 24VDC at 2.2A, Class 2 rated, so size your lock load against that 2.2 amps across all doors on the supply. Fail safe maglocks and fail safe strikes at 24VDC are what this is intended to release.
2) Does the ACSI 1410 release the interlock on a fire alarm?
Yes. There is a fire alarm input on the 1410 for override of the interlocking system, plus an optional emergency release interface input. On alarm the interlock logic is overridden so the doors are not held in a state that traps someone, which is the reason authorities having jurisdiction will ask about an interlock in the first place.
3) What is the difference between an interlock power supply and a standard access control power supply like the Securitron BPS?
An interlock supply does logic, not just power. The ACSI 1410 interconnects two or more doors so that opening one keeps the others locked, which is what a darkroom, airlock, clean room, laboratory or money counting room needs. A linear box supply such as the Securitron BPS simply feeds DC to locking hardware with no door-to-door interlocking, and the Securitron BPSM adds self-monitoring of the supply itself. If you only need lock power, the BPS family is the right shelf. If you need one door to prevent the other from opening, you need the interlock.
4) Is the ACSI 1410 UL listed for access control?
Yes, the 1410 interlock supply is UL Listed and tested to the UL 294 standard, which is the access control system units standard specifiers and inspectors ask for on electrified door hardware. Outputs are Class 2 rated, with overload, over voltage and short circuit protection built in.
5) Can a Securitron BPS power supply be used in place of an ACSI 1410 interlock supply?
No, and the distinction matters before the doors are wired. The Securitron BPS is a linear box power supply, so it supplies power to locking devices but does not decide which door is allowed to unlock. The ACSI 1410 is an interlock power supply built to interconnect two or more doors using fail safe locking devices, with separate plug-in p.c. boards that control the interlocking doors and can be programmed for normally locked or normally unlocked operation. If the opening is an airlock, clean room, darkroom or detention vestibule where one leaf must stay secure while the other is released, the 1410 provides that logic; a BPS on its own supplies 24VDC to the hardware and leaves the sequencing to something else.
6) I have six doors that need to interlock. Can I still use the ACSI 1410?
Yes. Four doors is the limit for a single 1410 supply, but the system expands for requirements in excess of four doors, so a six door interlock is built from more than one supply. Because any one door can be programmed as common to up to three separate interlocking systems, the door shared between two groups does not need to be duplicated in hardware.
7) Do I need a separate transformer or a 240V version of the ACSI 1410 for my building?
No separate step-down transformer and no voltage-specific model. The 1410 automatically accepts either 120VAC or 240VAC input, so the same unit works on North American 120V and on 240V service without a jumper selection or a different part number.
8) Can the interlock doors be set to normally locked instead of normally unlocked?
Both. Each interlocking door is controlled by a separate plug-in p.c. board on the 1410, and those boards can be programmed for normally locked or normally unlocked operation. That is the difference between a clean room airlock where doors stand unlocked until one opens, and a detention or money counting application where doors sit locked until released.
9) How much lock current does the ACSI 1410 supply, and is that enough for four maglocks?
Load capacity is 2.2A of filtered and regulated 24VDC, shared across every door on that supply. Four typical 24VDC fail safe locks have to total under 2.2 amps, so add up the holding current of each lock before you commit. If the total runs over, the interlock is split across additional supplies rather than pushed past the rating.
10) What is the difference between a self-monitoring power supply and an interlock power supply for a vestibule?
They answer two different questions on the job. The Securitron BPSM is a self-monitoring power supply, so its concern is the health of the supply itself and reporting on it. The ACSI 1410 is concerned with the relationship between doors: it can control up to four doors, the system expands past four doors when the application requires it, and any one door can be programmed to be common to as many as three separate interlocking systems. The 1410 also carries a fire alarm input and an optional emergency release interface for override of the interlocking system, which is what lets a vestibule drop its interlock on alarm. A vestibule that needs both supervision and sequencing is normally solved with both kinds of device rather than by choosing one.
11) Is the ACSI 1410 interlock rated for commercial and institutional use?
It is a commercial product, and the intended applications are institutional: darkrooms, laboratories, pharmaceutical spaces, detention centers, money counting rooms, airlocks and clean rooms. ACSI system engineers do design and consultation on the interlock layout, and ACSI supplies riser diagrams and point-to-point wiring diagrams for the system, which is what a facilities or procurement group needs when the interlock has to be coordinated with a fire alarm and an access control head end.
