ACSI 1451 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What's the difference between the ACSI 1451 and 1452 power supplies?
Load capacity is the only split. The 1451 supplies 1A, the 1452 supplies 1.75A. Everything else is common to both: filtered and regulated 12VDC or 24VDC output, Class 2 rated outputs, fire alarm interface, overload and short circuit protection, and a built-in charger with two 12V 7Ah lead acid batteries included. Size the unit by adding up the current draw of the devices you're powering. Motor driven latch retraction on two leaves will push you toward the 1452.
2) Will an ACSI 1451 power supply run electric latch retraction on an exit device?
Yes, that's a primary use. The 1451 and 1452 provide power and control to exit devices fitted with the ACSI Series 1550-MD Motor Drive Electric Latch Retraction. They also power fail safe or fail secure locking devices, and drive electrified hardware where an automatic door operator has to be interfaced. Note the 1451 tops out at 1A and the 1452 at 1.75A, so count your leaves before you pick.
3) Do I need to order the batteries separately for an ACSI 1451 or 1452?
No. Both ship with two 12V, 7Ah sealed lead acid batteries and the charger is built into the unit. On AC failure it switches over to standby battery automatically, so there's no external transfer relay to buy. The batteries are consumables and get replaced on the usual maintenance cycle, but nothing extra is needed to commission the panel.
4) Does the ACSI 1451/1452 power supply have a fire alarm interface for drop on alarm?
It does. A fire alarm interface is built in, so the supply can be tied to the building alarm and release power to fail safe hardware or dump latch retraction on alarm. That's what an AHJ will look for on an egress opening with electrified hardware, and it means you don't need a separate relay module between the panel and the FACP.
5) What do the ACSI suffixes TD, DN and AO mean when ordering a 1451 or 1452?
Three factory options, each ordered as a suffix on either capacity (1451-TD, 1452-AO and so on). TD is an adjustable time delay, settable from 1 second up to 60 minutes, for holding latches retracted or holding a lock released. AO is the Automatic Operator Interface, for sequencing the supply with a power operator. DN is Day/Night mode, a separate input that retracts one exit device or two simultaneously without firing the auto operator, so while the latches are held back the operator can still be triggered independently from a different input. A plain 1451 or 1452 with no suffix is the base unit.
6) I have a pair of doors on a vestibule with a push plate operator. Which ACSI model do I order?
For a pair with an automatic operator, the DN option is the one built for it. Day/Night mode retracts two exit devices simultaneously on its own input without activating the operator, which is how you get an unlocked-but-manual daytime condition, and the operator still runs independently from a separate input such as the push plate. If you only want the supply to sequence with the operator and don't need the separate daytime hold, order the AO version instead. Two leaves of motor driven latch retraction is where the 1.75A 1452 earns its place over the 1A 1451.
7) Is the ACSI 1451 power supply UL Listed for use in Canada?
Yes, the 1451 and 1452 are UL Listed for both the US and Canada, and the outputs are Class 2 rated. That covers the two things a spec writer and an inspector usually want on an access control power supply feeding egress hardware.
8) Can I use one ACSI 1452 for both 12V and 24V devices?
Output is filtered and regulated at 12VDC or 24VDC, selected for the installation, so plan on running the panel at the voltage your hardware needs rather than mixing two voltages off a single unit. Motor driven latch retraction and most electrified exit trim run 24V; many maglocks and strikes run either. Overload and short circuit protection is built in on both the 1451 and the 1452.
9) What's the alternative to an ACSI 1451 if I just need a plain linear power supply?
The ACSI 1451 and 1452 are linear supplies built around latch retraction and door operator control, with the fire alarm interface and the DN/AO/TD logic options. If the job is simply filtered DC to a strike or a maglock with no operator sequencing, the Securitron BPS Series linear box power supply is the simpler box. Where the job needs the panel to report its own condition back, Securitron's BPSM Series is the self-monitoring version. Neither of those brings ACSI's Day/Night or Automatic Operator Interface, so if you're driving a 1550-MD latch retraction device, stay with the 1451 or 1452.
10) Is the ACSI 1400 Series power supply suitable for a residential garage or house?
No. The 1451 and 1452 are commercial access control power supplies, sized and listed for electrified door hardware in commercial openings, exit devices with motor driven latch retraction, automatic operators, and fail safe or fail secure locks. For a house there's nothing here to control. This is equipment for a storefront, a school corridor, a multi-family lobby or a healthcare entrance.
11) How long will an ACSI 1451 hold a lock up after a power outage?
Runtime depends on what you have connected, not on the supply alone. What the 1451 gives you is two 12V 7Ah batteries, a built-in charger keeping them topped up, and automatic switchover the moment AC drops, so the transition is unattended. To estimate hold time, total the standby current of your connected hardware against that 7Ah capacity. Note that fail safe locks draw continuously and will drain a battery far faster than fail secure hardware, which draws only when signalled.
