ACSI ACSI-ACND80BDEU ATH 626 12V – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What happens to the ACSI ACND80BDEU electric cylindrical lock when power is lost?
It locks. The ACND80BDEU is a fail secure (power unlock) lock: the outside lever is unlocked while power is applied and locks the moment power is removed. That is the opposite of the fail safe versions in the same family, which unlock on power loss and behave as passage. Inside lever always retracts the latch for egress.
2) Does the ACSI ACND80BDEU come with a key cylinder?
No core is supplied. The lock is prepped for a 7-pin small format interchangeable core, so you add your own SFIC to match your keying system. When a cylinder is installed, the key will momentarily retract the latchbolt even while the lock is electrically locked. Note the reverse does not apply: if the lock is electrically unlocked, the key cannot lock it.
3) What voltage does the ACND80BDEU electric cylindrical lock run on, and can I use my existing 24V supply?
Both are offered. Voltage is an ordering choice of 12V or 24V, and the solenoid runs on AC or DC at the selected voltage. These are continuous duty solenoids, so the power supply has to be sized for constant draw, not momentary. Solenoid controlled locks are not field selectable for voltage, so pick the one that matches your existing supply when you order.
4) Can I get request-to-exit signalling on this ACSI cylindrical lock?
Yes. Switch type is an order option: NONE or RX. Specify RX if your access control panel needs to see the inside lever operated so it can shunt the door alarm on authorized egress. If you are only controlling the outside lever and have a separate REX sensor, take NONE.
5) Is this ACSI lock suitable for a stairwell door on an access control system?
Yes, that is what the 1500 Series is built for. These electric locks are made for stairtower doors and controlled areas where the door must both latch and lock, and they allow remote electric locking or unlocking while conforming to life-safety codes. They can also interface with life-safety systems for release on alarm. The lock is UL Listed and carries a Grade 1 commercial rating.
6) My cores are Schlage full size, not SFIC. Is the ACND80BDEU still the right ACSI lock?
No. The ACND80BDEU is prepped for a 7-pin small format interchangeable core. For Schlage full size interchangeable core keying, ACSI offers the ACND80JDEU, the same Grade 1 storeroom fail secure 12VAC/DC cylindrical lock with reversible lever in Schlage FSIC prep. If you want the fail safe version instead, that is the ACND80BDEL (7-pin SFIC) or ACND80JDEL (Schlage FSIC).
7) What is the closest alternative to the ACSI ACND80BDEU electric cylindrical lock from another manufacturer?
The DynaLock ECL-1 is an electrified cylindrical lockset and is the nearest cross-brand counterpart to the ACSI ACND80BDEU. Both are hard-wired electrified cylindrical locks rather than battery units. The ACND80BDEU is specifically a Grade 1 storeroom function lock with reversible lever, fail secure operation, and 7-pin SFIC prep, and it can be ordered in 12V or 24V with an optional RX request-to-exit switch, so if the opening spec calls out storeroom function with small format interchangeable core prep, the ACSI part is the one that carries those details.
8) How do I choose between the ACSI ACND80BDEU and the DynaLock ECL-1 for a stairtower door?
Both are electrified cylindrical locksets. The ACSI ACND80BDEU is published as Grade 1 storeroom function with a reversible lever, fail secure operation, 7-pin SFIC cylinder prep, and selectable 12V or 24V, plus an RX request-to-exit switch option that lets the door report egress back to the access control panel. The DynaLock ECL-1 is catalogued as an electrified cylindrical lockset in the ECL-1 series. If your stairtower spec names storeroom function, SFIC keying, and RX monitoring, the ACSI part states each of those.
9) I need a fail safe lock instead of fail secure - what should I order in place of the ACND80BDEU?
The ACND80BDEU is the fail secure configuration, locking when power is removed. For fail safe operation, where the outside trim unlocks on power loss, the matching ACSI part is the ACND80BDEL, a Grade 1 storeroom electric cylindrical lock with request-to-exit switch at 24VAC/DC and the same 7-pin SFIC prep. Both share the 1500 Series cylindrical platform, so lever styles and finishes carry across.
10) Do I have to order this ACSI storeroom electric lock handed?
No. The lever is reversible, so one part number covers left and right hand openings and the lever is field-adjusted at install. That is useful for a property manager stocking spares across a building rather than one lock per door swing.
11) Which lever styles and finishes can I get on the ACSI ACND80BDEU?
Five lever designs: Athens, Omega, Rhodes, Sparta and Tubular. Eight finishes: 605 bright brass, 606 satin brass, 612 satin bronze, 613 oil-rubbed satin bronze, 619 satin nickel, 625 bright chrome, 626 satin chrome and 643E aged bronze. If you are matching existing openings in a facility, pick the lever design first, since that is what reads visually next to mechanical locks already on the doors.
12) What is the difference between the ACSI ACND80 and ACND96 electric cylindrical locks?
The ACND96 versions are Vandlgard storeroom locks, built so the outside lever can rotate freely when locked instead of resisting force, which protects the internal mechanism on abuse-prone openings such as schools and dorms. The ACND80 line, including the ACND80BDEU, is the standard Grade 1 storeroom version. Both are offered fail secure (EU) and fail safe (EL).
13) Does the ACSI ACND80BDEU meet Buy American requirements for a government job?
Yes, the ACND80BDEU is BAA qualified, which matters on federal, municipal and other publicly funded work with domestic sourcing language in the spec.
14) Does this ACSI lock need batteries or a wireless credential reader?
Neither. It is a hard wired, non-battery electric lock with no onboard credential reader. Power and any switch wiring come to the lock through the door and frame, so plan on an electric hinge or door loop and a controlled power supply as part of the job.
15) Is there an ACSI option with vandal-resistant lever trim instead of the ACND80BDEU?
Yes. The ACND96BDEU is a Grade 1 Vandlgard storeroom electric cylindrical lock, fail secure at 12VAC/DC with the same 7-pin SFIC prep as the ACND80BDEU. The Vandlgard trim is the one to specify for high-abuse openings such as schools and transit corridors; the ACND80BDEU uses standard lever trim.
16) Can I monitor whether this ACSI storeroom lock is secure?
Security monitoring is available on the 1500 Series, alongside request to exit. Monitoring options and the RX switch are specified at order time, so decide up front what signals your access control head end needs from the door.
