ACSI ACSI-ACND96PDEU ATH 626 12V – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What happens to the ACSI ACND96PDEU lock if the power goes out?
It locks. The ACND96PDEU is a fail secure (power unlock) lock: outside trim is unlocked while power is applied and locked when power is removed, so a power failure leaves the opening secured. If you need the opposite behavior, where the outside lever frees up and the door becomes passage on power loss, you want a fail safe version such as the ACND96PDEL instead. Note that on either configuration the inside lever always retracts the latch for free egress.
2) Can I still get in with a key if the ACSI electric cylindrical lock is electrically locked?
Yes. When a key cylinder is supplied in the lock, the latchbolt can be momentarily retracted with the key even while the lock is electrically locked. The reverse is not true: if the lock has been electrically unlocked, you cannot re-lock it with the key. That is worth knowing before you plan a stairwell or controlled-area opening around key override.
3) Does the ACND96PDEU have to be ordered for a specific hand?
No handing to specify. The lever is reversible, so one lock covers left- and right-hand openings and you can field-adjust it rather than stocking both hands. That makes it easier for a property manager standardizing across a building.
4) What voltage does this ACSI Series 1500 electric cylindrical lock run on, and does it need a battery?
It is a hard wired lock, no battery. Voltage is an ordering choice of 12V or 24V, and the solenoid runs on AC or DC. Because it is a solenoid-controlled lock, fail safe or fail secure and the voltage both have to be specified at the time of order, they are not field selectable the way ACSI's motor-controlled lock bodies are. The solenoids are continuous duty, so the lock can sit energized on an access control circuit.
5) Is a request-to-exit switch included, or do I have to add it?
Request to exit is an ordering option, not standard on every configuration. The switch type is specified as either NONE or RX, so if your access control panel needs an REX signal from the lock to shunt an alarm or log egress, order the RX version. Security monitoring and authorized egress options are part of what the Series 1500 locks offer, along with interface to life-safety systems.
6) Is this ACSI lock strong enough for a school or dorm corridor where levers get abused?
That is exactly what the Vandlgard version is for. The ACND96PDEU is a Grade 1 commercial cylindrical lock with Vandlgard trim, where the outside lever rotates freely under force rather than transmitting the load into the lock body, so a kicked or hung-on lever is far less likely to break the lock. Grade 1 is the heaviest ANSI/BHMA duty class for institutional traffic.
7) What is the difference between this ACND96PDEU and the ACND96BDEU or ACND96JDEU?
Cylinder prep is the difference. The ACND96PDEU comes set up for a conventional key-in-lever cylinder in a C keyway. The ACND96BDEU is prepped for a 7-pin small format interchangeable core, and the ACND96JDEU is prepped for a Schlage full size interchangeable core. If your facility is already keyed on SFIC, order the B or J version so the cores you carry will drop in.
8) I need this lock to release on a fire alarm. Can it tie into the building life-safety system?
The Series 1500 electric locks are built to interface with life-safety systems and allow remote electric locking or unlocking while conforming to life-safety codes. Keep in mind the ACND96PDEU is the fail secure configuration, which stays locked on power loss. If the sequence you need is the outside trim releasing on alarm, specify the fail safe ACND96PDEL, where removing power drops the lock to passage.
9) Is the DynaLock ECL-1 a direct alternative to the ACSI ACND96PDEU electric cylindrical lock?
Both are electrified cylindrical locksets, so the DynaLock ECL-1 covers the same basic application of an access-controlled bored door opening. The ACSI ACND96PDEU is specified as a Grade 1 storeroom-function cylindrical lock with a lever handle, hard wired rather than battery powered, and it is ordered with the electrical behavior and lever style built in. The ECL-1 is catalogued as an electrified cylindrical lockset by series without those function, grade and lever choices carried alongside it, so confirm function, handing and trim against the opening before treating one as a drop-in for the other.
10) My spec calls for a Grade 1 electrified cylindrical lock on a federal job - does the ACND96PDEU or the DynaLock ECL-1 fit?
The ACSI ACND96PDEU is listed as Grade 1, commercial, and BAA qualified, which is the combination a federally funded specification usually asks for on an electrified cylindrical opening. The DynaLock ECL-1 is an electrified cylindrical lockset as well and suits the same door prep in general terms, but the ACND96PDEU is the one carrying the Grade 1 and BAA attributes in writing, so it is the safer submittal where those two lines appear on the drawing.
11) What does storeroom function mean on this electric lock, day to day?
Storeroom means the outside lever is always locked and the latch is retracted by key or by the access control signal, while the inside lever always allows exit. There is no button or thumbturn to leave the door unsecured. It is the standard choice for stairtower doors and controlled rooms where the opening has to both lock and latch. On this fail secure version, the lock sits locked and the reader momentarily unlocks it.
12) Is this lock UL Listed, and does it qualify under Buy American requirements?
UL Listed, yes, and it is BAA qualified, which matters if you are buying for a federal or federally funded project with Buy American Act sourcing rules. ACSI's business is UL Listed electrified modifications to other manufacturers' lockset platforms.
13) Should I use an electrified cylindrical lock or a separate electric strike for access control?
An electrified cylindrical lock like the ACSI Series 1500 keeps the control in the door leaf, so the existing frame and strike stay as they are and the opening still latches mechanically with a Grade 1 storeroom function. That is the route to take when the frame is not worth cutting or when you need key override and request-to-exit reporting from the lock itself. An electric strike moves the work into the frame instead and leaves the existing mechanical lock alone, which can be simpler on an old opening but gives you no lever-side monitoring. If you want the lock-in-the-door approach from another brand, the DynaLock ECL-1 is an electrified cylindrical lockset we also carry.
14) Will the DynaLock ECL-1 match the lever style and finish of the ACSI locks already on my building?
Not necessarily. The ACSI ACND96PDEU is offered in Athens, Omega, Rhodes, Sparta and Tubular lever styles across finishes including 605 bright brass, 606 satin brass, 612 satin bronze, 613 satin bronze oil-rubbed, 619 satin nickel, 625 bright chrome, 626 satin chrome and 643E aged bronze, so it can be matched to an existing ACSI or compatible lever set. The DynaLock ECL-1 is an electrified cylindrical lockset identified by series, so verify its trim and finish separately rather than assuming it lines up with the ACSI lever family.
15) I need a standard storeroom lever without electrification - can I use the ACND96PDEU?
The ACND96PDEU is an electronic, hard wired lockset, so it expects a power supply and an access control or release device at the opening. If the door is purely mechanical with no wiring, this is more lock than the job needs and the wiring is not optional. For a powered opening where you want the lever to stay locked on power loss, the ACND96PDEU is ordered fail secure in 12V or 24V, with or without a request-to-exit switch.
