  1. Review manufacturer specifications and verify door preparation requirements including door thickness (1" to 1-1/4") and wood frame construction compatibility.
  2. Use manufacturer-provided templates to mark mounting hole locations accurately on door and frame surfaces for through-bolt installation.
  3. Prepare door and frame by drilling required holes for the 1/2" x 4" x 1-19/32" case and routing as specified in manufacturer instructions.
  4. Install through-bolts to secure the case, inside 1004 Turn Lever, and outside 1016 Blank Plate escutcheon per manufacturer torque specifications.
  5. Adjust hookbolt throw using the screw in the faceplate to achieve proper engagement with the 4810 Box Strike for wood.

1-1/4 inch backset, measured including the faceplate. The lock case itself is 1/2 x 4 x 1-19/32 inches, so the pocket routed into the stile has to clear those dimensions. On a narrow sliding panel that 1-1/4 inch backset is what keeps the cylinder and turn hardware inside the stile instead of running off the edge of the glass or panel.

Inside, the 1004 Turn Lever throws and retracts the hookbolt with a 45 degree rotation, no key needed. Outside is the 1016 Blank Plate, which carries emergency override access rather than everyday key operation. The bolt is self protecting if the door closes with the bolt extended, so a tenant who slides the panel shut on a thrown bolt will not damage the lock.
6) Can I add key or card access to an Adams Rite 5500 deadlock later?
Yes on the key side. The lock takes standard Adams Rite MS cam mortise cylinders, so a cylinder can be added or rekeyed into the existing prep without changing the lock case.
