AC NIO License

AC Nio is management software for the AC Series access control system. It is used to program a system and manage everyday functionality. There are two license options available to accommodate different applications.

The Essential license can manage a system of up to 40 doors and cameras. It can be installed on a local server PC or on the AC-HOST embedded server.

The Small Business license can manage up to 80 doors and cameras, as well as elevators and unmanaged doors. This license allows up to five partitions and supports Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) integration.

Both the AC Nio Essential and Small Business license are available in a 1- or 5-year renewal schedule.

Aiphone AC-NIO-SB1 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What is the difference between the AC Nio Essential and Small Business licenses for Aiphone AC Series?
Capacity and features. The AC Nio Essential license manages up to 40 doors and cameras. The Small Business license doubles that to 80 doors and cameras, and adds elevator control, unmanaged doors, up to five partitions, and LDAP integration. If you are running a single building with a couple dozen openings, Essential covers it. If you need to segment a property into separate partitions, or you have elevator floor control in scope, Small Business is the one that does it.
2) Do I order the 1-year or the 5-year AC Nio Small Business license?
Both are the same software with the same 80 door and camera capacity, the only difference is the renewal schedule. The 1 year term is AC-NIO-SB1 and the 5 year term is AC-NIO-SB5. For a property you plan to hold, the 5 year term means one procurement cycle instead of five. For a job where the end user takes over the system after handover, the 1 year term keeps the renewal decision with them.
3) What server or PC do I need to run Aiphone AC Nio management software?
AC Nio runs on Windows 7 Professional, Enterprise, or Ultimate or later, on a 32 bit (x86) or 64 bit (x64) processor at 2 GHz or faster, with 4 GB of memory or higher. Budget 1 GB of storage for the install plus additional space for the database as it grows. It also needs .NET Framework 4.5 or later and Microsoft SQL Server 2008, SQL Server 2008 Express, or higher. Spec the machine against the database growth, not the 1 GB install figure, since every credential, door, and event log lands in SQL.
4) Can AC Nio pull users from Active Directory instead of entering cardholders by hand?
LDAP integration is supported on the AC Nio Small Business license only. That is the license to specify if you want cardholder records to follow your existing directory rather than being keyed into the access system separately. The Essential license does not carry LDAP, so on a campus or office where IT already owns the user list, Small Business is the correct line item.
5) Can I use AC Nio to control elevator floors and not just doors?
Elevators are covered under the Small Business license, along with unmanaged doors, inside the same 80 door and camera count. Elevator control is not part of the Essential license, so a mid rise or multi tenant building with floor level access control needs the Small Business tier from the start rather than an upgrade later.
6) Do I need a dedicated server PC for AC Nio, or can it run on the Aiphone AC-HOST?
The Essential license can be installed on a local server PC or on the AC-HOST embedded server, so a small system does not require you to stand up a dedicated Windows machine. The Small Business license is the higher capacity option at 80 doors and cameras. Where you need a full Windows host, the published requirement is Windows 7 Professional or later with SQL Server 2008 or higher behind it.
7) What are partitions in AC Nio and how many do I get?
The Small Business license allows up to five partitions. Partitions let you split one AC Nio system into separately administered segments, which is how you handle a mixed use property or several tenants on one head end without giving every operator visibility into every door. Five is the ceiling on this license. Essential does not offer partitioning.
8) What happens if my system grows past 80 doors on the AC Nio Small Business license?
80 doors and cameras is the hard ceiling on the Small Business license, and 40 on Essential. Past that you are outside what either license will manage, and Aiphone directs larger system capacity to their regional sales team for the appropriate tier. Size this at design, not after the controllers are in, because door count and camera count both draw from the same 80.
9) Is the Aiphone AC Nio license a physical part or software, and is it for commercial use?
AC Nio is management software for the Aiphone AC Series access control system, licensed by term rather than shipped as hardware. It is used to program the system and manage everyday operation, credentials, doors, and cameras included. Aiphone lists it as a commercial product, and it is an electronic access control item, not a mechanical one, so it is specified alongside your readers and controllers rather than with door hardware.
