1) Will the Aiphone AX-DM door station hold up mounted outside?
The AX-DM is an exterior rated door station. It carries an IP43 protection rating, an ABS plastic housing, and an operating temperature range of 14 to 140 degrees F (-10 to 60 degrees C). IP43 covers spray from above, so a covered entry or a location with some overhead protection is the right application; it is not a submersion or pressure wash rating.
2) Can the AX-DM mount on a narrow storefront mullion instead of the wall?
That is what the AX-DM is built for. It is a mullion mount station that surface mounts directly to a wall or a mullion, so on an aluminum storefront you get a station on the frame member beside the glass rather than cutting into it. Surface mount also means no back box cut into the wall.
3) What wire do I need to run to an Aiphone AX-DM, and how far can it go?
Cat-5e or 2-conductor cable, with a maximum wire distance of 980 feet. That run length covers most single-building applications, a parking gate, or a rear service door well away from the master station. Pulling Cat-5e is the common choice on new work since it is what the rest of the AX system uses.
4) Does the AX-DM have a camera, or is it audio only?
Audio only. The AX-DM is a hands-free audio door station, so a tenant or a front desk hears the visitor and talks back but does not see them. If the job requires the operator to identify a face before releasing the door, you need a video door station on the AX system instead.
5) Which Aiphone systems will an AX-DM work with?
The AX-DM works with the AX Series, the IE-8 Series, the IPW-1A, the KB-Series, and the TD-H Series. So if you already have an IE-8 or a KB system in the building, the AX-DM is a usable entry station and you are not forced to replace the head end to add a door.
