The AX-8M is an Audio only master station and can be one of the up to 8 masters supported in the AX Integrated Audio & Video Security system. Each AX-8M master station can initiate and answer calls from up to 7 additional master stations and up to 8 doors or substations. The master can be expanded with AX-16SW add-on selectors for a maximum capacity of 120 door / sub stations. Its streamline design is mountable on a wall or desk.

When a door or substation calls, a tremolo tone rings. To answer the call, simply press the TALK button once and speak hands-free, or Press and Hold the TALK button to use as push-to-talk, release-to-listen. If access control is included, simply press the "key" button and the associated electric strike or magnetic lock will be activated. The AX-8M can answer the call from any audio-only or audio/video door/sub on the system.

1) How many door stations and masters will an Aiphone AX-8M handle?
The AX-8M audio master station talks to up to 7 other master stations and up to 8 door or sub stations out of the box. If you need more doors than that, AX-16SW add-on selectors expand the master to a maximum of 120 door/sub stations, so a single desk position can cover a large building.
2) Does the AX-8M work with video door stations, or audio only?
The AX-8M itself is an audio only master, no screen. It will still answer a call from any audio-only or audio/video door or sub station on the AX system, you just won't see the picture at this station. If someone at that position needs to see the visitor, put a video master there instead and keep AX-8M units at the spots that only need to talk.
3) What wire do I run to an Aiphone AX-8M and how far can it go?
Cat-5e back to the AX Central Exchange Unit, with a maximum wire distance of 980 feet. Every station homeruns to the exchange unit rather than daisy chaining, so plan the pull that way.
4) Can the AX-8M release the door, or do I need a separate access control keypad?
There's a door release key button on the master. Where access control is wired into the AX system, pressing it energizes the associated electric strike or magnetic lock. The AX-8M is the release point, not the locking device, so the strike or mag lock and its power supply are ordered separately.
5) Can an Aiphone AX-8M sit on a reception desk instead of the wall?
Both. It surface mounts directly to a wall, or sits on a desk. For a receptionist who wants the face tilted up, use the MCW-S/A desk stand to set an adjustable angle.
6) Is the AX-8M hands free, or do you have to hold a button to talk?
Your choice at the station. Press TALK once and it goes hands-free (VOX) so the user can keep working. Press and hold TALK and it behaves as push-to-talk, release-to-listen (simplex), which is the better mode in a noisy lobby or mechanical space where VOX keeps tripping.
7) Can I page all the intercom stations at once from an AX-8M?
Yes. The master supports All Call and Group Call to other master stations, plus scan monitoring so a security desk can step through stations and listen in. Incoming door calls announce with a tremolo tone so staff can tell them apart from other alerts.
8) Is the Aiphone AX-8M rated for commercial buildings or is it a residential intercom?
