The AXW-AZ lets a standard CCTV camera be viewed on an AX Series video master station, so an audio-only door station location can still be seen. Video comes in and goes back out on BNC connectors as composite 1Vpp NTSC, and the audio door station at that location still handles the talk path. It also has a separate video output so the same camera feed can run full time to a CCTV monitor or recorder.
2) How far can the AXW-AZ adaptor be run from the master station, and what cable does it need?
Wiring is Cat-5e, with a rated distance of 980 feet. That is the number to check before you commit a camera location at the far end of a building or across a parking structure. Video itself lands on BNC, so the camera side uses standard coax terminations.
3) Can a motion detector trigger the camera automatically instead of someone pressing a button?
Yes. The AXW-AZ takes a normally closed sensor input, so a standard motion detector can auto-activate the camera. The camera can also be brought up manually from the master station. Once activated, monitoring runs 30 seconds and is controlled by the master station.
4) Do I need to replace my audio door stations with video door stations to get video at the door?
No, and that is the point of the AXW-AZ. You keep the existing AX audio door station for communication and add a CCTV camera at that location, with the adaptor bringing the picture to the video master station. It is the retrofit path when a full video door station swap is not practical.
5) Will the AXW-AZ work with any CCTV camera?
The camera has to output composite 1Vpp NTSC on BNC, which is the standard analog CCTV signal. An IP camera will not connect to it. Check the camera's output format before ordering, since the adaptor's video in and out are both specified at that one signal type.

There is a relay output on the AXW-AZ that fires when the CCTV camera is activated. Integrators use it to trigger an external device at that point in the sequence.
