The GT-MKB-N is a video guard station for the GT Series multi-tenant video intercom system. It can be surface mounted to the wall or a 3-gang electrical box, or may be desk mounted using the included desk stand. The GT-MKB-N features a keypad for calling both tenant and entrance stations. There is also a handset for private communication. There are up and down buttons to search for a tenant name via the directory, and a door release button to selectively open the entrance where communication is established.
The GT-MKB-N has two calling modes, standard (via tenant station) and emergency (via GFK-PS). When a standard call is placed, a normal call tone is heard and the name and number of the caller are displayed on screen. When an emergency call is placed, an urgent call tone is heard and the "EMERGENCY" screen with the name and number of the caller is displayed on screen. A standard call is reset by hanging up the GT-MKB-N handset and an emergency call must be reset at the tenant location.
The GT-MKB-N can be programmed manually, programmed via a PC using the supplied USB cable, or programmed via an Android™ device using NFC. A standard GT Series system will support 2 GT-MKB-Ns while an expanded system will support 4 GT-MKB-Ns. The system has one talk path. When the system is occupied, a busy tone will be heard if another call is attempted.

1) How many GT-MKB-N guard stations can I put on one Aiphone GT system?
A standard GT Series system supports 2 GT-MKB-N guard stations. An expanded system supports 4. Keep in mind the system has a single talk path, so if one station is in a conversation anyone else attempting a call hears a busy tone. That matters in a lobby plus loading dock setup where two guards might try to answer at once.
2) Can the Aiphone GT-MKB-N be mounted on a desk instead of the wall?
Both. A desk stand is included in the box for counter or desk use, and the same unit surface mounts to the wall or to a 3-gang electrical box. So a guard desk today and a wall position after a lobby remodel is the same part number, no adapter to buy.
3) What does the NFC reader on the GT-MKB-N actually do?
It is for programming, not for credentials. The built-in NFC reader lets you push tenant directory updates to the station from an Android mobile device, which is how a property manager handles a move-in or a name change without pulling a laptop out. The station can also be programmed manually at the keypad or from a PC using the supplied USB cable.
4) Can the guard release the door from the GT-MKB-N intercom station?
Yes. There is a dedicated door release button that opens the entrance where communication is currently established, so a guard talking to a visitor at the front entrance releases that door and not another one. Calls to entrance stations and to tenant stations are both placed from the keypad.
5) What is the difference between a standard call and an emergency call on the Aiphone GT-MKB-N?
A standard call from a tenant station rings with a normal tone and puts the caller's name and number on screen; the guard clears it by hanging up the handset. An emergency call, placed through a GFK-PS, sounds an urgent tone and throws an EMERGENCY screen with the caller name and number. That one cannot be cleared at the guard station, it has to be reset at the tenant location, which is deliberate so nobody dismisses a life safety call from the lobby.
6) How does a guard find a tenant who is not in the numbering they remember?
Up and down buttons scroll the directory by tenant name on the 3.5 inch TFT color LCD, so the guard searches by name rather than needing the unit number. The same screen doubles as the station's menu screen and shows video when the call is with a video entrance station.
7) Can visitors be screened by the guard before calls go to tenants?
That is what Reception Mode does. With it enabled, all calls route through the GT-MKB-N first and the guard transfers them to the tenant station. Turn it off and tenant stations receive calls directly. Useful for buildings that staff a desk during business hours only.
8) Does the GT-MKB-N have a handset or is it hands-free?
Both are available on the station. Open voice operation is voice-actuated, meaning the parties trade off talking. Lift the handset and you get voice-actuated or full-duplex conversation, plus privacy at a lobby desk where a hands-free speaker would broadcast a resident's business to everyone waiting.
9) How much current does the Aiphone GT-MKB-N draw for power supply sizing?
Maximum consumption is 250mA. Add that to the rest of the connected GT Series devices when you size the system power supply, and remember an expanded system can carry up to four of these stations.
