1) How many door stations and room stations can the Aiphone IE-8MD handle?
The IE-8MD master handset supports two door stations and up to six rooms, with selective call or all-call between handsets. Each of the two doors gets its own selective door release, so you can talk to one entrance and release only that door.
2) What wire do I need to run between the Aiphone IE-8MD master and the door station?
Door station to master runs 2-conductor with overall shield, Aiphone #822202. Master to sub stations is 4-conductor with overall shield, Aiphone #822206. Keep the runs separate; the 2-wire home run goes to the entrance, the 4-wire daisy feeds the room handsets.
3) How far can I run the Aiphone IE-8 intercom wiring?
From the door station to the IE-8MD master, 500 feet on 22AWG or 1,180 feet on 18AWG. From the master to the farthest sub station, 245 feet on 22AWG or 580 feet on 18AWG. On a larger building, step up to 18AWG before you start pulling.
4) Will the IE-8MD release my existing electric strike?
The door release output is a normally open dry contact rated 24V AC/DC at 350mA. That is a switch only, not a power source, so the strike or maglock needs its own transformer or power supply in the circuit. Anything drawing more than 350mA needs a relay between the handset and the lock.
5) What power supply does the Aiphone IE-8MD master station need?
It runs on either 12 to 16V AC or 12 to 18V DC, so an existing low-voltage transformer on site will often do the job. The door release contact is a separate circuit and does not take power from the handset.
6) Is the Aiphone IE-8MD hands-free or a handset intercom?
It is a handset station with full-duplex communication, so both parties can talk at once without pressing a talk button. You lift the handset rather than speak to an open speaker, which is the better choice at a leasing office or front desk where conversations should stay private.
