Aiphone IS-MB – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What is the Aiphone IS-MB bracket used for?
The IS-MB is a mullion mounting bracket that holds an Aiphone IS-DV video door station on a narrow mullion or door frame, where there isn't enough flat wall to surface mount the station itself. It's shaped to fit the station precisely and routes the wiring out of sight behind the bracket.
2) Will the Aiphone IS-MB work with any Aiphone door station, or only the IS-DV?
It's made for the IS-DV video door station. The bracket is formed to that station's footprint, so pairing it with a different Aiphone unit is not something the product covers. Order the IS-MB when the IS-DV is going onto a mullion.
3) Can the IS-MB mullion bracket be mounted on the hinge side or does it have a handing?
No handing to specify. The IS-MB can go on either the right or left side of the door, so one part number covers both orientations and you don't need to declare swing or hinge side when ordering.
4) Does the Aiphone IS-MB mount straight to the mullion, or do I need a back box?
Both methods are supported. It surface mounts directly to the mullion, or it mounts over a 1-gang box if your electrician has already stubbed one into the frame. On a hollow metal mullion with a wire pull, direct surface mounting is usually the faster route.
5) I'm putting an IS-DV on a glass storefront entrance. Is the IS-MB what I need?
Yes, that's the exact case it's built for. Glass front entrances leave only the vertical mullion to mount to, and the IS-DV won't sit flat there on its own. The IS-MB adapts the station to that narrow frame face and hides the cable run inside the bracket rather than leaving it exposed on the glass line.
6) Does the IS-MB include the door station, or is that ordered separately?
The IS-MB is the bracket only. The IS-DV video door station is a separate order, as is any wiring, back box, or fasteners your installer needs for the specific mullion. Budget both lines on the job.
7) What material and finish is the Aiphone IS-MB bracket?
Aluminum, finished in black. That holds up at an exterior entrance where the bracket is exposed to weather and daily traffic, and the dark finish blends with most anodized or painted aluminum storefront mullions.
8) Is the Aiphone IS-MB rated for commercial installations?
It's catalogued as a commercial item and is part of the electronic access control line, so it belongs on office, multi-family, and institutional entrances rather than residential doorbell work. Pair it with the IS-DV station on a main entry mullion.
