The IX-EA is a surface mount weather-resistant IP video door station. It connects to a network using Cat-5e/6 cable and is SIP compliant. The station is equipped with a 1.23 megapixel fixed color camera. The camera angle can be vertically adjusted using a lever on the back of the station. The video can be streamed to 3rd-party devices using ONVIF Profile S or RTSP. Audio and video can be captured on a microSD™ card. The IX-EA can be programmed to call up to 20 different stations with three different call level selections. The station has a 600Ω output that can be used for paging or communication.


There is one contact output that can be programmed to trigger during door release, when the 600Ω output is used or based on the status of the station. There is one input that can be used to trigger an outgoing call or answer a call/ page. Sound files can be uploaded for custom messages to be played during certain functions (door release, call placed, communication start, error message, etc.). The station has audible and visual indications for calling, communication, and door release.

Aiphone IX-EA – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Does the Aiphone IX-EA door station need its own power supply, or will PoE run it?
PoE runs it. The IX-EA takes IEEE 802.3af class 0 Power over Ethernet over the Cat-5e/6 run, drawing 5.18W max, so no local transformer or separate power drop at the door. It also supports PoE pass through when fed from an 802.3at Type 2 PoE+ source, which is how you power a downstream device off the same run.
2) Can the IX-EA be mounted outdoors at an exterior entrance?
Yes, it is built for the exterior. The IX-EA is a surface mount weather and vandal resistant station with a stainless steel faceplate, rated for operation from -40 to 140 degrees F (-40 to 60 C), so it holds up at an uncovered entry in cold or hot climates.
3) Can the IX-EA release a door strike directly, or do I need a separate access control relay?
It can drive the release itself. The IX-EA has contact outputs, one of which is programmable to trigger on door release, on use of the 600 ohm output, or on station status. There are 6 trigger inputs as well, one usable to place an outgoing call or answer a call or page, so a request-to-exit or call button can be tied in.
4) Can the IX-EA tie into our existing phone system instead of only Aiphone masters?
Yes. The station is SIP compliant and can integrate with Cisco Unified Call Manager, which lets calls from the door be answered off-site on the phone system rather than only at a dedicated master station.
5) Can I pull the IX-EA camera into my VMS as a camera feed?
Yes. The IX-EA streams to third-party devices over ONVIF Profile S or RTSP, so a VMS that takes either will pick it up alongside your other cameras. The camera itself is a 1/3 inch CMOS 1.23 megapixel fixed color unit with a 5 lux minimum illumination and a white LED for low light.
6) The camera is fixed, so how do I aim it at faces if the station sits high or low?
There is a manual vertical adjustment. A lever on the back of the station sets the camera to +15, 0, or -8 degrees, so you can compensate for a mounting height above or below normal face level. There is no pan or zoom, only those three vertical positions, so plan the mounting height with that in mind.
7) How many stations can one IX-EA call, and can visitors pick a destination?
The IX-EA can be programmed to call up to 20 different stations, with three call level selections. That is how a single entrance serves several tenants or departments off one door station.
8) Does the IX-EA record entry conversations, and does it come with the memory card?
Audio and video of active conversations can be captured to a microSD card, but the card is not supplied by Aiphone. Buy one separately if you intend to record.
9) Can I use the IX-EA door station to make paging announcements?
Yes. It carries a 600 ohm output that can be used for paging or communication, so the station can feed an amplifier or paging system at the entrance.
