Aiphone IX-DVF-PR – Frequently Asked Questions

1) How do I power an Aiphone IX-DVF-PR door station?
Two options. PoE over the network cable (IEEE 802.3af class 0), or 24V DC from an Aiphone PS2420UL supply. Power draw at the station is 5.28W, so a standard 802.3af port carries it with room to spare. The RJ45 in/out also passes PoE through, but pass-through needs 802.3at Type 2 PoE+ upstream rather than plain 802.3af.
2) What credentials does the built-in card reader on the IX-DVF-PR read?
It has an integrated AC-PROX-1G proximity reader running at 125kHz, so it reads 125kHz prox credentials, not 13.56MHz smart cards. If your building is already on 125kHz prox badges, this station adds a reader at the entry without a separate reader body on the wall. The reader section draws 45mA at 5 to 14V DC and carries CSA, FCC, CE and C-Tick marks.
3) Will the IX-DVF-PR survive an unsheltered exterior entrance in a cold climate?
It is built for exposed entries: stainless steel panel, weather and vandal resistant, IK65 protection with IK08 impact rating. Operating range runs from -31 to 140 degrees F (-35 to 60 C), which covers northern winters and full sun on a south-facing door.
4) Can I wire door release and request-to-exit to the IX-DVF-PR directly, or do I need a separate controller?
The station has two contact outputs and six trigger inputs on board. That gives you relay outputs for a strike or maglock circuit and inputs for things like REX, door position, or call buttons, wired straight to the station instead of through a separate access panel.
5) How well does the IX-DVF-PR camera see a face at night?
The camera is a 1/3 inch CMOS sensor at 1.23 megapixel, fixed lens, with a minimum illumination of 5 lux and a white LED for low-light fill. It is not an IR camera, so identification in the dark depends on that LED rather than infrared. The camera angle can be set manually to +15, 0, or -8 degrees to suit the mounting height at your door.
6) Will the IX-DVF-PR integrate with our existing VoIP phone system and network security policy?
It speaks SIP alongside the standard IP stack (IPv4, IPv6, TCP, UDP, HTTP, HTTPS, RTSP, RTP, RTCP, IGMP, MLD, SMTP, SFTP, DHCP, NTP, DNS), so it can register to a SIP server rather than only Aiphone master stations. For network access control it supports IEEE 802.1X port security. Audio uses G.711 (mu-law and A-law) or G.722 wideband.
7) Is the Aiphone IX-DVF-PR suitable for an apartment building or is it a commercial-only unit?
It is classed as commercial equipment and belongs to the Aiphone IX Series IP intercom line, which is what gets specified for multi-family lobbies, schools, healthcare and office entries. Nothing prevents residential use, but the vandal-resistant stainless panel and prox reader are aimed at controlled commercial and multi-tenant entrances.
8) Can the IX-DVF-PR record video locally if the network goes down?
There is a microSD card slot in the station for local storage, separate from any network recording. Note the card is not part of the door station itself, so plan on supplying one.
