The AX-DVF-P is a flush mount color video door station and has a built in HID ProxPoint Plus card reader (6005B). The reader connects to an access control system while the camera connects directly to the AX Central Exchange Unit using CAT-5e wire with an RJ45 jack.

Both units wire directly to the AX Central Exchange Unit using CAT-5e wire with RJ45 for connection.

Aiphone AX-DVF – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Can the Aiphone AX-DVF video door station be surface mounted instead of flush?
Flush mounting is the default, and the required back box ships with the AX-DVF. For a surface mount installation you add the SBX-AXDVF surface mount box instead. Decide this before the wall is closed up, since the flush box has to go in during rough-in.
2) What wiring does the AX-DVF door station need back to the exchange unit?
Cat-5e with an RJ45 jack, run directly to the AX Central Exchange Unit. Maximum wire distance is 980 feet, so on a large site measure the actual cable path, not the straight line across the building.
3) What is the difference between the AX-DVF and the AX-DVF-P?
Same flush mount color video door station and stainless steel faceplate on both. The -P version adds a built in HID ProxPoint Plus card reader (6005B). On the -P, the reader wires to your access control system while the camera still goes back to the AX Central Exchange Unit on Cat-5e. If you already have a reader on the door, the standard AX-DVF is the one to order.
4) Can the AX-DVF be mounted outdoors at an exterior entrance?
It carries an IP43 protection rating and an operating range of 14 to 140 F (-10 to 60 C), so it handles a normal exterior entry. IP43 covers spraying water at an angle, not driving rain or hose-down, so give it a recessed or covered location rather than a fully exposed wall.
5) Does the AX-DVF door station include access control, or do I still need a separate system?
Neither version is an access control panel. On the -P model with the HID ProxPoint Plus reader, that reader connects out to an access control system you supply; the intercom side does not control the lock through it. The standard AX-DVF is video and hands-free audio only.
6) How much will the AX-DVF camera actually see of a visitor at the door?
The camera is a fixed 1/4 inch CCD covering 2 feet 1 inch vertical by 3 feet 1 inch horizontal at 20 inches. It is not a wide-angle or pan-tilt unit, so mount it at face height for the average visitor rather than high on the wall. LED illumination switches on automatically in low light, so a dark vestibule still gives you a usable picture.
7) Will the AX-DVF work with an Aiphone system that has no central exchange unit?
No. The AX-DVF is an AX Series door station and it wires directly to the AX Central Exchange Unit. Without that exchange in the system there is nothing for it to connect to, so on a non-AX Aiphone system you need a door station from that system's own family.
8) Is the AX-DVF stainless steel faceplate suitable for a high-traffic commercial entry?
The faceplate is stainless steel and the lens cover is polycarbonate, and the unit is classed for commercial use. That combination is aimed at apartment lobbies, office entries and institutional doors where the station takes daily contact.
9) Does a visitor have to hold a button to talk on the AX-DVF?
No. Communication is hands-free, so the visitor presses the call button and then simply speaks. That matters on accessible entrances and for anyone arriving with their hands full.
