The JP-DVF is a stainless steel flush mount vandal resistant video door station.

This unit work with the JP Series and connect to the master station using an 18AWG 2-conductor solid core cable. The JP-DA includes a camera, microphone, speaker, and call button. Tamper resistant screws are provided for mounting the JP-DV and JP-DVF
stations.

When the call button on the door station is pushed, the inside master station(s) ring and the video screen displays the image from the door station’s camera. The master station initiates communication, and the person at the door station speaks hands-free. The JP door stations can be located up to 330’ from the master monitor using 18AWG 2 conductor solid core cable (Aiphone wire #871802).

1) How far can the Aiphone JP-DVF door station be run from the master station?
Wire distance depends on gauge: 300 feet on 18AWG and 165 feet on 22AWG, using 2-conductor, low capacitance, non-shielded cable (Aiphone #871802). For a gate or parking entry at the far end of a property, size the run with 18AWG and keep the total under 300 feet from the master monitor. Only two conductors are needed, so an existing analog intercom pair can often carry it.
2) Does the JP-DVF flush mount door station need a separate back box?
A back box is included for flush in-wall mounting, so no extra box is required for a standard recessed install. If the wall cannot be cut in (solid masonry, a metal jamb, an existing finished lobby wall), the JP-DVF mounts on the surface using the SBX-DVF surface mount box, ordered separately.
3) Can the JP-DVF video door station be mounted outdoors in cold or hot weather?
Yes. It is weather resistant and rated from -4 to 140 degrees F (-20 to 60 degrees C), which covers most North American exterior entries. The housing is stainless steel and vandal resistant, and tamper resistant screws are supplied for mounting, so it holds up at a street-facing door or an unsupervised service entrance.
4) Will the JP-DVF work with my existing Aiphone master station?
The JP-DVF is a JP Series door station and works with JP Series master stations. It is not a standalone unit, so a master station has to be part of the order or already installed. When the call button is pressed, the inside master rings and shows the camera image, and the party at the door talks hands-free with open voice, auto-voice actuation, meaning no press-to-talk at the entry.
5) What do I need to order besides the JP-DVF to finish a video intercom job?
Three things beyond the door station itself. A JP Series master station inside, since the JP-DVF has no display or handset of its own. Aiphone #871802 2-conductor, low capacitance, non-shielded cable for the run, in 18AWG if you are pushing toward 300 feet. And the SBX-DVF surface mount box only if you cannot recess it, since the flush back box and the tamper resistant screws already come with the station.
6) Should I choose the vandal resistant JP-DVF or the standard JP-DA door station?
Pick by exposure, not by picture quality. The JP-DVF is the stainless steel, vandal resistant, weather resistant station meant for a public-facing or unsupervised entry, and it flush mounts in the wall with its included back box. The JP-DA is the surface mount station in the same JP family. All of them include a camera, microphone, speaker, and call button and wire the same way. If the entry is behind a locked vestibule or under cover with staff nearby, the vandal resistant housing is not buying you anything.
7) How much of the entry does the JP-DVF camera actually see?
The 1/4 inch CMOS camera covers approximately 100 by 170 degrees, wide enough to take in a full doorway and the area to either side rather than just a head-and-shoulders view of whoever pressed the button. Digital pan, tilt and zoom is driven from the master station, so a guard or resident can push in on a delivery label or a face without anyone touching the door station. An LED comes on automatically in low light, so a night arrival at an unlit entry still shows an image.
8) Is the Aiphone JP-DVF suitable for a commercial building or is it a residential intercom?
It is classified commercial. The stainless steel vandal resistant housing, the weather rating, and the tamper resistant mounting screws are the reasons it lands in apartment lobbies, office entries, schools and clinics rather than single-family front doors.
