1) What back box does the Aiphone LE-DA door station mount into?
The LE-DA mounts flush in a standard 2-gang back box. If you can't get a box into the wall, it surface mounts with the Aiphone SBX-2G/A surface box instead. The station body measures 4-1/2 inches H x 4-9/16 inches W x 2 inches D, so plan the opening around that.
2) Will the Aiphone LE-DA work with my existing intercom system?
Only with Aiphone LEF series intercom systems. The LE-DA is a door station built for LEF master stations, and the talk path is controlled by press-to-talk at the master. Pair it with a different Aiphone family or another brand's system and it won't function.
3) How far can I run wire from the LE-DA door station to the master station?
650 feet on 22AWG, or 1,600 feet on 18AWG, measured from the door station to the farthest master. Use 3-conductor with an overall shield, Aiphone #822203 for 22AWG or #821803 for 18AWG. If your run is beyond 650 feet, go to the heavier 18AWG gauge rather than trying to make 22AWG reach.
4) Can the Aiphone LE-DA be installed outside at an entrance?
It's rated IP33 and holds up from 14 to 140 degrees F (-10 to 60 C), with a stainless steel cover that's weather and vandal resistant. That covers a covered entry, a lobby door, or a gate under an overhang. IP33 is protection against spraying water at an angle, not driving rain or a hose down, so a fully exposed wall in a storm-facing elevation is asking more of it than the rating covers.
5) Does the LE-DA have a button for the visitor to press, or does it just talk?
It does both. The LE-DA provides call-in as well as communication, so a visitor presses to call the master station and the tenant or front desk answers from there.
6) Does someone have to pick up a handset at the door to talk on the Aiphone LE-DA?
No handset at the door. Communication at the LE-DA is hands-free once the master station answers, and the master controls the talk direction with press-to-talk. The visitor just speaks at the panel. That's the behavior you want at a lobby or gate where nothing should be hanging off the wall to be pulled.
7) Is the LE-DA audio only, or does it have a camera?
Audio only. The LE-DA is an audio intercom door station for LEF systems, giving voice communication and call-in. If the job needs the person at the master to see who's at the door, this is the wrong station and you want a video door station instead.
8) Is the Aiphone LE-DA suitable for a commercial building or is it a residential product?
The LE-DA is a commercial-grade door station. Stainless cover, vandal resistant, and flush mounting into a 2-gang box, which is what you'd standardize on across entries in an apartment building, an office lobby, or a service door.
