Yes. The IXGW-GW is required for the Aiphone IXG app to work, and a service fee may apply for the app itself. Without the gateway, an IXG system stays on-premise only, with calls answered at physical stations. Add the gateway and tenants can screen visitors from a smartphone or tablet wherever they are.
2) How many phones can a tenant register on the Aiphone IXG app per unit?
Up to 8 mobile apps per tenant station. That covers a household with several residents, or a small business suite with multiple people who need to buzz in visitors. Each registered device can take the call and screen the visitor.
3) Does the IXGW-GW gateway need its own power supply, or is it powered over the network?
It's PoE, so a single Cat cable from a PoE switch or injector carries both data and power. That keeps the install to one run and lets you mount it in the IDF or telecom closet next to the switch instead of hunting for an outlet.
4) Is the IXGW-GW an intercom station itself, or something else?
It isn't a station and it has no call button, speaker or camera. The IXGW-GW is a gateway adaptor that sits on the network and bridges an Aiphone IXG Series IP intercom system to the mobile app. You still need the entrance station and tenant stations to build the system; the gateway only adds the smartphone side.
5) Will the Aiphone IXG mobile app run on iPhone and Android?
Both. The app the IXGW-GW gateway supports runs on iOS and Android, so you don't have to standardize tenants on one platform. Useful in multi-family, where you have no say in what phone anyone carries.
