3) Can the IXW-HWCBP hand wave call sensor be mounted outdoors at an exterior entrance?
Yes. The unit is weather resistant with an 18-gauge stainless steel panel, and it is rated for operation from -4 to 131 degrees F (-20 to 55 C). That covers exterior gate and vestibule entries in most North American climates.
4) How close does someone have to get for the Aiphone hand wave sensor to read a wave?
Detection range is 0 to 10cm, so it is a near-field infrared sensor, not a motion detector across a lobby. A hand has to come within about 4 inches of the panel. That short range is deliberate, it keeps passing foot traffic from placing nuisance calls.
5) Will a visitor know the hand wave sensor registered their call?
There is visual feedback built in. The sensor ring is lit blue while in standby and switches to green when activated, so a visitor sees confirmation without touching anything. Useful at healthcare and food service entries where staff want a no-contact call and clear acknowledgement.
6) Can I use this hand wave sensor with something other than an Aiphone IX station?
The output is a Form C dry contact rated 30VAC/DC at 3A, which is a generic contact closure, but the product is built as an IX Series accessory and the documented wiring is to the trigger input of an IX Series door station.
