Metallics SWA1244 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Can I use the SWA1244 anchor in cracked concrete?
Yes. The SWA1244 is a cracked concrete anchor, so it is intended for use in concrete that may crack in the tension zone, not just sound uncracked slab.
2) What drill bit size do I need for a 1/2 inch Metallics SWA1244 wedge-style concrete anchor?
Match the bit to the anchor diameter: a 1/2 inch anchor goes into a 1/2 inch hole drilled with a carbide hammer bit. With a 4-1/2 inch anchor length, drill the hole deeper than the embedment you need so debris at the bottom does not stop the anchor short.
3) Is the SWA1244 anchor long enough to mount strut or conduit racks through a thick base plate?
At 4-1/2 inches overall, the SWA1244 leaves usable thread above the surface after embedment, which is why electrical contractors reach for it on strut channel, trapeze hangers, and equipment base plates rather than the shorter 1/2 inch lengths. The grip you get depends on how deep you set it, so size the embedment to the fixture thickness you are clamping.
4) Will one jar of SWA1244 anchors cover a multi-point equipment mount?
Each jar holds 25 anchors. For a four-bolt base plate that is six mounts per jar with one spare, so a job with more than six fixtures needs a second jar.
