Metallics NT14100K1 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What thread size are the Metallics NT14100K1 strap toggle anchors, and does the screw come with them?
They take a 1/4-20 thread, and the screw is included in the kit. So a box gives you the toggle anchors and the matching 1/4-20 machine screws together, no separate fastener order needed to hang the load.
2) Can I use the Metallics 1/4-20 strap toggle in solid concrete or brick?
No. Strap toggles are hollow wall anchors, they work by swinging a channel against the back face of a drywall, plaster, block face, or panel cavity. In solid concrete or solid brick there is no cavity for the channel to seat in, and the anchor cannot set. For solid base material, use a concrete screw or an expansion anchor rated for masonry.
3) Are these strap toggles steel, and will they hold up in a damp area like a parking garage or mechanical room?
The NT14100K1 toggles are steel with a zinc finish. Zinc plating is a mild corrosion coating for dry and normally occupying interior spaces, not a substitute for stainless or hot dip galvanized hardware in wet, washdown, or exterior exposure. For a damp or corrosive location, specify a stainless anchor instead.
4) What is the difference between a strap toggle and a standard spring wing toggle bolt?
A strap toggle, like the Metallics 1/4-20 unit, uses a metal channel on a plastic strap that you push through the hole and pull flat against the back of the wall, then snap the strap off. The anchor stays in place while you drive the screw, so you can remove and reinstall the screw later without losing the toggle in the cavity. A spring wing toggle bolt has to be assembled on the bolt before it goes in the hole, and if you back the bolt out the wings drop inside the wall. Use the strap toggle where the item may be taken down and re-hung, such as serviceable equipment, brackets, or box covers.
5) Are these anchors suitable for hanging electrical boxes, strut, and conduit supports?
That is the intended use. The NT14100K1 is an electrical department fastener, a 1/4-20 strap toggle with screw, and 1/4-20 is the common thread for supporting channel, hanger brackets, and box mounting on hollow walls. The limit is the base material, not the thread, you need a wall with a cavity behind it for the toggle to seat.
6) How many anchors come in a box of Metallics NT14100K1?
One hundred per box, packaged as a box rather than a bag or carded pack. That is a contractor quantity, which is how most electrical and MRO buyers stock it for repeat drywall and hollow wall mounting work.
7) What part number do I order for the Metallics 1/4-20 strap toggle anchor kit?
Order Metallics NT14100K1. That is the manufacturer part number for the 1/4-20 steel zinc strap toggle anchor with screw, supplied 100 to a box.
