1) Are these Metallics anchors stainless steel or plated carbon steel?
Stainless steel. The JTS1024SS is the SS version of the 1/4 x 2-1/4 wedge anchor, which is what you want for exterior mounting, wash-down areas, pool decks, coastal work, or anywhere a zinc-plated anchor would bleed rust down the concrete.
2) Can I use a 1/4 x 2-1/4 wedge anchor in block or brick, or is it concrete only?
Wedge anchors are designed for solid, poured concrete. Hollow block, brick, and mortar joints do not give the expansion clip anything solid to bite, and a wedge anchor set in hollow CMU can spin or pull. For block walls use a sleeve anchor or a screw anchor rated for hollow base material instead of the JTS1024SS.
3) Is a 2-1/4 inch anchor long enough to mount strut or a panel to a concrete wall?
At 2-1/4 inches overall, the JTS1024SS leaves roughly an inch of usable fixture thickness once you set a normal embedment for a 1/4 inch wedge anchor. That covers strut channel, conduit straps, small enclosures, and light bracketry. If you are going through a thicker standoff or a grouted shim, step up to a longer 1/4 inch anchor rather than shorting the embedment.
4) How many wedge anchors come in a jar of Metallics JTS1024SS?
100 anchors per jar, packed in a jar rather than a box, so it is a single consumable unit for a truck or a shop shelf rather than a loose count. Each anchor ships assembled with its nut and washer, which is standard for a wedge anchor.
5) Can a wedge anchor be removed or reused once it has been set?
No. Once the nut is torqued the clip expands against the hole wall and the anchor is permanent. You can back the nut off and drive the anchor below the surface, then patch, but it does not come back out and it cannot be reused in another hole. Order the jar count with a little spare, since a misplaced hole means a new anchor.
6) Will stainless wedge anchors work with galvanized strut and steel fittings?
Yes, and it is common on electrical work. Stainless against hot dip galvanized strut is a normal pairing outdoors; the galvanizing is the sacrificial metal, so the anchor stays sound. Keep the fixture material consistent where you can, and avoid mixing stainless anchors with bare aluminum in a constantly wet location.
