Metallics JDP6 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What are hand drive pins used for on an electrical rough-in?
Hand drive pins are a one piece masonry fixing you set with a hammer, no powder actuated tool and no expansion anchor to seat separately. Electricians use them for fastening strap, clips, boxes and small conduit supports to concrete and block. The JDP6 at 1/4 by 2 inches gives you enough length to get through a thin bracket and still take embedment in the base material.
2) Do I need a special tool or powder charge to install the JDP6 drive pin?
No. These are hand drive pins, set with a hammer, so there is no powder actuated tool, no charge, and no operator certification involved. That makes them the practical choice on occupied buildings and small punch list work where a powder tool is not allowed or not worth hauling in.
3) Is the Metallics JDP6 an expansion anchor or a solid pin?
It is a solid drive pin, not an expanding anchor. There is no sleeve, cone, or screw to tighten, which means it is a permanent fixing: to remove it you cut or pull it, you cannot back it out like a sleeve anchor or a tapcon. If the fixing has to come off later for service, use a threaded anchor instead.
4) Is the JDP6 drive pin corrosion protected for damp locations?
The pins are zinc plated steel, which handles normal interior and dry concrete work. Zinc plating is a light coating, so for exterior, wet, or corrosive environments you would want a hot dip galvanized or stainless fixing instead.
5) Is there only one size option, or do I pick a length when ordering the JDP6?
JDP6 is a single fixed configuration, 1/4 by 2 inches in zinc plated steel, 100 per jar. Nothing to specify on the order beyond quantity of jars. Other lengths in the hand drive pin line carry their own part numbers.
