Metallics JTS1044SS – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Is the JTS1044SS stainless steel or just plated?
Stainless steel throughout, not zinc plated carbon steel. That matters if the anchor is going into concrete exposed to weather, washdown, or a parking structure, where a plated anchor would rust at the exposed stud and threads.
2) How many anchors come in a jar of Metallics JTS1044SS?
One hundred anchors per jar. Metallics packages this 1/4 x 4 stainless wedge anchor in a jar pack, which is the usual way electrical and MRO stock rooms buy small-diameter anchors for repeat use.
3) Can I use a 1/4 x 4 wedge anchor in block or brick instead of concrete?
A wedge anchor like the JTS1044SS is a solid-concrete anchor. It works by expanding a clip against the wall of a drilled hole, so it needs solid base material. In hollow block or through brick face it can blow out the cell wall, and a sleeve anchor or a screw anchor suited to masonry is the better choice there.
4) What thread size do I get on the JTS1044SS, and does it come with a nut and washer?
The stud on a 1/4 inch wedge anchor is 1/4-20, and wedge anchors of this style ship as an assembly with the nut and washer already on the stud, so no separate hardware is needed. You will need a 1/4 inch carbide bit and a hammer drill to set them.
5) Why is a 4 inch anchor so long for a 1/4 inch diameter?
Length on a wedge anchor covers the fixture being fastened plus the embedment into the concrete. At 4 inches, the JTS1044SS gives you a lot of grip range, so it suits mounting through grout, topping, insulation, or a thick base plate. For fastening a thin strap flat to a slab, a shorter 1/4 inch wedge anchor leaves less stud sticking out.
6) Will I need the same anchor for indoor electrical work, or is stainless overkill?
For dry interior slab and wall work, a zinc plated 1/4 x 4 wedge anchor does the same mechanical job at lower cost. Reach for the stainless JTS1044SS where moisture, chemicals, or outdoor exposure is in play, or where you are bolting to a dissimilar metal and want to avoid galvanic problems with a plated stud.
7) What is the Metallics part number for the 1/4 x 4 stainless wedge anchor?
JTS1044SS. That number covers the 1/4 x 4 stainless wedge anchor in the 100-piece jar, so it's the one to quote for reorders or to put on a submittal.
