1) What size hole do I drill for a 3/4 inch wedge anchor?
Wedge anchors are drilled with a hammer-drill bit matching the anchor's nominal diameter, so a 3/4 inch anchor like the TS6512 takes a 3/4 inch carbide bit. Drill the hole deeper than your intended embedment so dust and cuttings have somewhere to go, then drive the anchor through the fixture until the clip seats below the surface.
2) Can I use the TS6512 wedge anchor in block or brick instead of concrete?
Wedge anchors are designed for solid, poured concrete only. The expansion clip needs the uniform compressive strength of concrete to set properly, and hollow block or brick will crush or spall rather than hold. For CMU or masonry, use a sleeve anchor or screw anchor rated for hollow base material instead.
3) Is the zinc plating on the TS6512 OK for outdoor or wet locations?
The TS6512 is zinc plated carbon steel, which is a dry interior finish. Zinc plating gives limited corrosion protection and will rust in exposed exterior, damp, or chemically aggressive locations. For outdoor rooftop equipment, pool rooms, or coastal work, specify a stainless steel wedge anchor instead.
4) How much of the 5-1/2 inch length is usable for my fixture thickness?
Total length on the TS6512 is 5-1/2 inches, and that length has to cover your embedment into the concrete plus the thickness of whatever you are fastening plus the nut and washer. A 3/4 inch wedge anchor needs substantial embedment, so budget most of the 5-1/2 inches below the surface and only the remainder for your fixture. If you are clamping a thick base plate or standing off a strut channel, check your stack-up against the length before you drill.
5) Are nuts and washers included with Metallics TS6512 wedge anchors?
Wedge anchors ship as a complete assembly: the threaded stud, the expansion clip, and a nut and washer already on the stud. You install through the fixture and tighten the nut that comes on the anchor. No separate hardware to order.
6) Can a wedge anchor be removed or reused once it is set?
No. The clip on a wedge anchor expands permanently against the hole wall, so once the TS6512 is driven and torqued it cannot be backed out and reused. If you need to clear the location, cut or drive the stud below the surface and patch over it, then set a new anchor in fresh concrete away from the old hole.
