Metallics TS312CCL – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What size wedge anchor is the Metallics TS312CCL, and what is it used for?
The TS312CCL is a 3/8-16 x 3-3/4 inch wedge anchor in zinc-plated steel, sold 250 to a box. Wedge anchors are expansion anchors for solid concrete: you drill, drive the anchor through the fixture, and tightening the nut pulls the cone into the expansion clip to grip the hole wall. Typical electrical use is hanging strut, trapeze supports, conduit racks, and equipment bases off a slab or wall.
2) Will a wedge anchor work in block, brick, or hollow-core plank?
No. Wedge anchors like the 3/8-16 TS312CCL are for solid, poured concrete only; they need continuous material around the hole to develop expansion force. In hollow block, brick, or hollow-core plank, use a sleeve anchor, a toggle, or a screw anchor rated for masonry instead, and keep the anchor out of the mortar joint unless the manufacturer allows it.
3) Does the TS312CCL wedge anchor come with a nut and washer?
Wedge anchors of this type ship as a complete assembly, with the nut and washer already threaded onto the stud end so you can drive and set them without sourcing separate hardware. The thread is 3/8-16, so any standard 3/8-16 hex nut matches if one is lost on the job.
4) Can I use these zinc-plated wedge anchors outdoors or in a wet area?
Zinc plating on the TS312CCL is a light corrosion coating meant for dry interior work, parking structures aside. For sustained exterior exposure, washdown areas, or anything coastal, specify a stainless or hot-dip galvanized wedge anchor instead; plated steel will bloom rust at the stud where it stands proud of the concrete.
5) Is the 3-3/4 inch length enough to anchor through strut or a thick base plate?
The 3-3/4 inch overall length of the TS312CCL has to split between embedment in the concrete and whatever sits on top of the slab. Allow for your fixture thickness plus the nut and washer, and what remains is your embedment. Through a piece of strut or a thin base plate there is plenty left; through a grouted base or a stacked assembly, step up to a longer 3/8 inch anchor rather than shorting the embedment.
6) How many anchors are in a box of Metallics TS312CCL, and is it sold loose?
The TS312CCL is packaged as a box of 250 anchors, which is the standard buying unit here rather than a loose count. For a trapeze run or a repeating conduit support layout that is usually a job-lot quantity; order by the box and figure your per-point count against it.
