1) Can I use a 5/16 x 4 wedge anchor in concrete block or does it need poured concrete?
Wedge anchors like the 5/16 x 4 JTS5164D are designed for solid, poured concrete. The expansion clip needs continuous solid material to grip against, so hollow block cells, brick and mortar joints are not appropriate. For hollow block use a sleeve anchor or a toggle instead.
2) Is a 4 inch long wedge anchor too long for mounting a strut channel or conduit clamp?
At 4 inches overall, this anchor is sized for jobs where you need real embedment plus the thickness of what you are fastening. Usable thread above the slab equals 4 inches minus your embedment depth, so for thin fixtures like a single conduit clamp you will have excess stud sticking up unless you embed deeply. For thicker assemblies, base plates, or stacked channel it is the right length.
3) Are these zinc plated anchors OK for outdoor or wet locations?
The JTS5164D is zinc plated steel, which is a dry interior finish. Zinc plating gives limited corrosion protection, so for exterior slabs, wash-down areas, pool decks, or anywhere exposed to chlorides, specify a stainless wedge anchor instead.
4) Will a wedge anchor work in a hole I already drilled slightly oversize?
No. A 5/16 wedge anchor relies on the expansion clip wedging against the wall of a tight 5/16 hole. An oversize or wallowed-out hole will not develop grip and the anchor will spin. Move over and drill a fresh hole, or switch to an adhesive anchor where hole tolerance matters less.
5) Does the Metallics JTS5164D come with a nut and washer?
Wedge anchors of this type are supplied as a complete assembly, stud with expansion clip plus nut and washer, so you tighten the nut to set the anchor. The JTS5164D is packaged 100 assemblies to a jar.
