Metallics WAKJ34 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Are the Metallics 5/16 blue nylon anchors meant for concrete, block, and masonry?
Yes. Expandet style nylon expansion anchors like the WAKJ34 are plug anchors: you drill the masonry, seat the nylon sleeve in the hole, then drive a screw into it so the plug expands against the wall of the hole. That makes them a fit for concrete, block, brick, and stone. In hollow drywall with no solid backing, a toggle or self-drilling drywall anchor is the better choice, since a plug anchor needs a solid substrate to expand against.
2) What size anchor is in the Metallics WAKJ34 nylon anchor kit, and how many come in the jar?
The WAKJ34 is a 5/16 inch blue Expandet nylon expansion anchor kit, packed 25 pieces to a jar. It's the kit form, so the anchors come packaged together rather than loose by the piece.
3) Does the Metallics WAKJ34 anchor kit come with the screws, or do I need to supply them?
The WAKJ34 is a 25 piece jar of 5/16 blue nylon anchors. Plan on the screws being a separate line item, and size them so they bite the full depth of the nylon plug. Buy the masonry drill bit to match the anchor diameter at the same time if you don't already have one on the truck.
4) What are 5/16 nylon anchor kits typically used for on an electrical job?
Electricians reach for 5/16 nylon plug anchors to mount strut, box and panel brackets, conduit straps, and surface boxes to concrete and block walls. The WAKJ34 is sold as an electrical fastener kit for exactly that kind of light to medium surface mounting where a wedge or sleeve anchor would be overkill.
