1) What hole size do I drill for a 5/8 inch wedge anchor like the TS505SSD?
A wedge anchor is drilled with a carbide bit matching the anchor's nominal diameter, so a 5/8 inch anchor takes a 5/8 inch hole in the concrete. The hole has to be drilled deeper than the embedment you want so the dust has somewhere to go. The TS505SSD is 5 inches overall, so your embedment is that 5 inches less the thickness of whatever you are fastening down plus the nut and washer.
2) Can I use the TS505SSD wedge anchor in block or brick instead of concrete?
No. Wedge anchors are for solid, poured concrete only. The expansion clip needs continuous solid material to bite against, and hollow block or brick will crush or blow out. For CMU, use a sleeve anchor or a screw anchor rated for hollow base material instead.
3) Will stainless wedge anchors hold up outdoors or in a wet mechanical room?
Yes. The TS505SSD is a stainless steel wedge anchor, which is what you want for exterior pads, parking structures, pool and wash-down areas, or anywhere a zinc-plated carbon steel anchor would rust and stain the concrete. For dry interior slab work, a plated anchor of the same size does the same mechanical job at lower cost.
4) Does the TS505SSD wedge anchor come with a nut and washer?
Wedge anchors ship as a complete assembly, with the nut and washer already threaded onto the stud end, so you drill, drop the anchor through your fixture, and torque the nut to set the clip. Nothing else is needed except a 5/8 inch carbide bit and a hammer drill.
5) Can a wedge anchor like this be removed or reused later?
No. Once a wedge anchor is torqued, the expansion clip is permanently set in the hole. You can back the nut off and remove the fixture, but the anchor body stays in the concrete. If you need a removable connection, use a threaded insert or a female drop-in anchor instead of the TS505SSD.
