Arrow E62-26D-144 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the Arrow E62 deadbolt fit a 1-3/8 inch door, or only 1-3/4?
Both. The Arrow E62 double cylinder deadbolt covers 1-3/8 inch through 1-3/4 inch doors as standard, which takes in the common older interior door and the standard commercial 1-3/4. If you're running the small format interchangeable core version of the E Series housing, that unit goes 1-3/8 inch up to 2 inches.
2) Does the Arrow E62 need a specific backset, or will it work with the holes already in my door?
The E62 latch is adjustable between 2-3/8 inch and 2-3/4 inch backset, so it drops into either of the two standard cross-bore positions without you having to measure twice. The deadbolt front differs slightly by setting: 2-1/4 x 1 inch at the 2-3/8 backset, 2-1/4 x 1-1/8 inch at the 2-3/4 backset.
3) What is a double cylinder deadbolt and should I use one instead of a thumbturn?
A double cylinder deadbolt is keyed on both faces, so there is no thumbturn inside and it has to be unlocked with a key from either side. That's the reason people specify it on doors with glass beside or within them, where a thumbturn could be reached through a broken light. The trade-off is egress: many jurisdictions restrict double cylinder on required exit doors because an occupant needs the key to get out. If free egress matters on that opening, use a cylinder x thumbturn deadbolt instead, such as the Hager 3215 or the Dexter DB2000 single cylinder.
4) Will the Arrow E62 latch into the strike I already have in the frame?
The bolt throws a full 1 inch, solid steel with a hardened free spinning pin insert, so it has the reach for a properly prepped commercial frame. The E62 ships with the #346 wood frame strike; if you are going into a hollow metal frame, order the #345 metal frame strike, it's an option rather than standard. The catalogued strike prep for the series is a flat strike 1-1/8 x 2-3/4 inches.
5) What other double cylinder deadbolts could I use if the Arrow E62 isn't right for the opening?
Depends on why it isn't right. For a heavier spec, the Design Hardware D1 Series is a Grade 1 extra heavy duty double cylinder for 1-3/4 inch doors, and the Dexter DB1000 is Grade 1 double cylinder covering 1-3/8 to 1-7/8 inch. Staying at Grade 2, the Dexter DB2000 double cylinder and the Delaney LU Series double cylinder both match the E62's grade, and the Dexter covers the same 1-3/8 to 1-3/4 range. If your door is thicker than 1-3/4, the Deltana 7312KA2 double cylinder goes to 2 inches.
6) What is the closest Grade 2 double cylinder deadbolt to the Arrow E62 if I need another brand?
The Dexter DB2000 double cylinder deadbolt is the nearest match. Like the Arrow E62, it is a Grade 2 double cylinder deadbolt covering 1-3/8 inch to 1-3/4 inch doors. The Delaney LU Series 320601 is also a Grade 2 double cylinder deadbolt and is supplied in a stainless steel US32D finish, while the Arrow E62 is offered in 626 satin chrome. The E62 accepts 6 or 7 pin small format interchangeable cores, including Best and Falcon type, which is the differentiator if you are keying into an SFIC system.
7) I need a heavier duty double cylinder deadbolt than the Arrow E62 - what steps up?
The Design Hardware D1 Series double cylinder deadbolt is Grade 1 and extra heavy duty, prepped for 1-3/4 inch doors. The Dexter DB1000 double cylinder is also Grade 1 and covers 1-3/8 inch to 1-7/8 inch doors. The Arrow E62 is Grade 2 for 1-3/8 inch to 1-3/4 inch doors with a 1 inch throw solid steel bolt and a free-spinning wrench-proof collar. If the opening is a fixed 1-3/4 inch commercial door and the spec calls Grade 1, the D1 is the direct step up.
8) The opening only needs a thumbturn inside, not a second key - what replaces the Arrow E62?
The Arrow E62 is keyed on both sides, which is why it ships with concealed mounting screws. For a cylinder by thumbturn opening, the Hager 3215 is a Grade 2 single cylinder deadbolt with a 1 inch throw for 1-3/8 inch to 1-3/4 inch doors, and the Dexter DB2000 single cylinder is Grade 2 over the same door thickness range. Deltana CL200LAIC is another single cylinder Grade 2 option that takes an interchangeable core if you are keying into an SFIC system the way the E62 does.
9) My door is thicker than 1-3/4 inch - what double cylinder deadbolt fits instead of the Arrow E62?
The Arrow E62 standard prep covers 1-3/8 inch to 1-3/4 inch doors. For a thicker leaf, the Deltana 7312KA2 double cylinder deadbolt is listed for 1-3/8 inch to 2 inch doors, and the Corbin Russwin DL3011 cylindrical deadlock covers 1-3/4 inch to 2-1/4 inch. Note the DL3011 is furnished cylinder by blank rather than keyed both sides, so confirm the inside function before you order it against a double cylinder spec.
10) My spec requires a fire rated deadbolt - can I use the Arrow E62?
If the drawing calls for a fire rating on the deadbolt itself, look at the Hager 3214 double cylinder deadbolt, which carries a fire rating and is prepped for 1-3/8 inch to 1-3/4 inch doors with a Schlage C keyway. The Cal-Royal CRB800 is a Grade 1 heavy duty deadbolt with a UL 3-hour fire rated latch, though it is single cylinder. The Arrow E62 is a Grade 2 commercial double cylinder unit with a 1 inch throw steel bolt over the same 1-3/8 inch to 1-3/4 inch door range.
11) Is the Arrow E62 deadbolt handed?
No handing to specify. All E Series deadbolt functions are reversible, so one part number works on a left or right hand door.
12) Is the Arrow E62 rated for commercial use, and what grade is it?
Grade 2 and built for commercial openings, not a residential builder's deadbolt. Two-piece housing with a free spinning outer collar to defeat wrenching, concealed mounting screws on the double cylinder functions, and two 1/4 inch steel thru-bolts for the through-the-door fastening.
13) Can I use the Arrow E62 on a fire rated door?
For a fire door assembly, look at a deadbolt with a stated fire rating rather than the E62. The Hager 3115, 3118, 3214 and 3215 deadbolts all carry a fire rating in our records, and the Cal-Royal CRB800 is a Grade 1 heavy duty deadbolt with a UL 3-hour fire rated latch. Note the Hagers are cylinder x thumbturn, not double cylinder.
14) Which deadbolt should I pick if the building is keyed to Schlage C rather than the Arrow A keyway?
The Arrow E62 ships standard with a solid brass Arrow A keyway cylinder drilled for 6 pins and pinned to 5, and is available in Schlage CS keyway and other competitive keyways. If you would rather buy a lock that is already catalogued on Schlage C, the Hager 3214 is a Grade 2 double cylinder deadbolt with a Schlage C keyway for 1-3/8 inch to 1-3/4 inch doors. For an interchangeable core system instead of a conventional keyway, the E62 accepts Best or Falcon type small format cores.
15) Is the Callan 210S the same thing as the Arrow E62?
Both are double cylinder deadbolts, but they are not the same duty class. The Callan Model 210S is Grade 3, while the Arrow E62 is Grade 2 with a 1 inch throw solid steel bolt carrying a hardened free-spinning steel pin insert and two 1/4 inch steel thru-bolts. The E62 also accepts 6 or 7 pin small format interchangeable cores. For a light residential-duty opening the 210S covers the same function; for a commercial opening the E62 is the one written to the commercial spec.
16) Which double cylinder deadbolts look like an Arrow E62 substitute but are not?
A few to rule out. The Baldwin Reserve 8BR0618001 is a deadbolt spacer, not a lock. The BEST 8T is a tubular deadbolt tube component rather than a complete deadbolt. The Emtek 2050 and 2051 are European mortise deadbolts with an integrated roller latch, so they need a mortise pocket rather than the bored prep the Arrow E62 uses. The Codelocks CL2200 is an electronic surface deadbolt, a different mounting and operation entirely from the keyed E62.
17) What deadbolt should I use on a storefront or aluminum door instead of the Arrow E62?
The Arrow E62 is a bored deadbolt for 1-3/8 inch to 1-3/4 inch doors with a 2-1/4 inch by 1 inch front. For narrow stile aluminum work, the International Door Closers DH-1821 is a hook bolt deadlock with a flat faceplate, and the DT-1851 is a long throw deadlatch lock with a flat faceplate - both are mortise style bodies suited to stile prep rather than a bored hole.
18) I want to stop issuing keys - what electronic deadbolt replaces the Arrow E62?
The Delaney KP400 is a Grade 2 electronic deadbolt with a programmable remote, matching the Arrow E62 on grade while removing the key. For multifamily and hospitality credential systems, the Dormakaba Saffire LX-D is an RFID electronic deadbolt with BLE and electronic lock override, and the Nova-D is an RFID multihousing smart deadbolt. The E62 remains the choice where the opening has to key into an existing SFIC system, since it accepts 6 or 7 pin small format cores.
19) What finish does the Arrow E62 come in?
Satin chrome, 626. That's the standard commercial finish, so it lines up with the 626 lever sets, closers and exit trim already on most institutional and multi-family openings.
20) I need a decorative double cylinder deadbolt instead of the Arrow E62 satin chrome - what are my options?
For trim-driven openings, the Baldwin Reserve double cylinder deadbolts come in a contemporary round and a contemporary square rose, and the Emtek 8323 Modern Disc is a brass double cylinder deadbolt. The Baldwin Estates 8011 is a 1-5/8 inch contemporary double cylinder deadbolt. The Arrow E62 is a commercial Grade 2 unit supplied in 626 satin chrome with a free-spinning wrench-proof outer collar, so it reads utilitarian next to those.
