1) Can the E51CLT16PU proximity sensor run directly on 120VAC, or does it need a DC supply?
The B-Line E51CLT16PU runs on 120Vac directly, with a 1.0A solid state output rated to switch up to 1.0A AC. No separate DC power supply or interposing relay is needed for a standard 120V control circuit.
2) Is this E51 sensor rated for washdown or submerged locations?

It only detects metal, so a non-metallic target that worked a lever arm will not trigger it.
5) Can I mount this sensor flush in a metal bracket or machine frame?
Shielded operating mode means the sensing face can be mounted flush and embedded in surrounding metal without the metal triggering it. That is the difference from an unshielded sensor, which needs a clear zone of non-metal around the face.
6) Can the sensing head be aimed a different direction after the sensor is bolted down?
The head is hard wired to the body and cannot be removed, but it can be unfastened and rotated to any of four positions. That gives you four fixed orientations for the sensing face off one mounting footprint, which usually solves awkward bracket geometry without a second bracket.
