B-LINE BL1430-C442 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What conduit sizes does the B-Line BL1430-C442 beam fastener hold?
The Eaton B-Line BL1430-C442 beam fastener is sized for 1-1/2 inch EMT or 1-1/4 inch rigid conduit. Those are two different trade sizes with nearly the same outside diameter, which is why one fastener covers both. If you are running 1-1/4 inch EMT or 1-1/2 inch rigid, you need the adjacent size in the BL1430 range, not this one.
2) Is the BL1430-C442 conduit beam clamp UL listed for electrical work?
Yes, it carries a UL/CUL listing, so it will satisfy inspectors and spec sections that require listed conduit support hardware on a commercial or institutional job. The CUL side covers Canadian installations as well.
3) Can I attach conduit straight to a steel beam flange with this, or do I need strut first?
This is a beam fastener, so it clamps directly onto the flange of a structural steel member and supports the conduit from there. No strut channel, no drilling, no welding is required for the attachment itself. That is the reason contractors reach for these on exposed overhead runs where the only available structure is beam steel.
4) What is the exact part number to order for the 1-1/2 inch EMT B-Line beam fastener?
Order Eaton B-Line model BL1430-C442. The BL1430 family covers a range of conduit sizes, and the C442 suffix is the one matched to 1-1/2 inch EMT and 1-1/4 inch rigid. Quoting the full designation avoids getting a neighbouring size shipped.
5) Should I use a beam fastener or a conduit strap for overhead runs on steel structure?
Use a strap when you have a solid surface to fasten into, such as deck, block or wood. Where the only structure overhead is exposed steel, a beam fastener like the BL1430-C442 is the right choice because it grips the flange with no anchors or holes in the structural member. Straps would need a backing surface that is not there.
