B-LINE INSERT 16X118 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What does the B-Line Flextray solid bottom insert actually do in a wire basket tray run?
It is a steel solid bottom liner that drops into the wire basket tray to give cable a continuous flat surface instead of resting on the wire mesh. Part INSERT 16X118 covers 118 inches of run at a 16 inch width, which matches a 16 inch wide Flextray section. Useful where small-diameter or jacketed cable would otherwise sag between wires or take pressure marks from the mesh.
2) How is the solid bottom insert fastened into the tray, and is the hardware included?
It attaches with FTHDWE 1/4 inch hardware and a top washer, so the washer bears on the insert and clamps it down to the tray wires. That hardware is a separate Flextray item, so plan to order the FTHDWE fasteners along with the insert.
3) Is the Flextray solid bottom insert UL Listed?
Yes, the insert carries a UL Listed rating, which is what most inspectors and institutional specs want to see on cable tray accessories in a commercial or data center install.
4) How much height does the insert add inside the tray, and will it cut into my fill depth?
The profile is .25 inch, so it eats a quarter inch of usable depth in the basket. On a shallow Flextray section that is worth checking against your cable fill; on deeper runs it is negligible.
5) Is the steel insert heavy enough to matter for overhead tray loading?
Not much. Product weight is listed at 1 lb, so lining an overhead Flextray run adds very little to what the trapeze hangers and threaded rod are already carrying.
6) Can I use this insert only in certain spots instead of lining the whole tray?
Yes. Because it fastens independently with 1/4 inch FTHDWE hardware and a top washer, you can place the solid bottom just where it is needed, such as under a drop point, at a transition, or where fiber and small jacketed cable would otherwise ride on the mesh, and leave the rest of the Flextray open for airflow.
