Bobrick 9279 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) How much wall space does the Bobrick B-9279 waste receptacle take up in a tight restroom?
It is a slim surface-mounted unit measuring 11-11/16 inches wide, 23-7/8 inches high and 6-1/8 inches deep (297 x 607 x 156 mm). At roughly 6 inches off the wall it fits beside a lavatory or inside a narrow toilet compartment where a floor can won't go, and it still holds 6 gallons (23 L).
2) Is the Bobrick B-9279 ADA compliant for a public restroom?
Bobrick lists the B-9279 as ADA compliant. It is surface mounted, so the installer still controls the mounting height and reach range on the wall, but the unit itself is specified as ADA compliant.
3) What finishes does the Bobrick B-9279 waste receptacle come in?
Two: satin stainless, which is the standard, and matte black. Satin blends with most commercial washroom accessory sets; matte black is the choice when the rest of the fittings in the space are black.
4) Will the Bobrick B-9279 hold up in a high-traffic or humid restroom?
The body is Type 304 stainless steel at 18 gauge (1.2 mm), which is the corrosion-resistant grade used in commercial washrooms and handles moisture, cleaning chemicals and daily abuse. The liner inside is a separate rigid molded plastic container, so the steel shell doesn't take the wet waste directly.
5) Does the B-9279 have a removable liner, or does housekeeping empty the whole unit?
There is a removable, leak-proof rigid molded plastic waste container inside. Housekeeping lifts the liner out rather than unmounting the receptacle, and the leak-proof liner keeps wet trash off the wall and floor.
6) Can the B-9279 be recessed into the wall instead of surface mounted?
No. The B-9279 is a surface-mounted, wall-hung receptacle with a 6-1/8 inch projection off the finished wall. If you need a flush unit you have to spec a recessed or semi-recessed model instead; this one has no wall cavity prep.
7) Is 6 gallons enough for a restroom trash can, or should I go bigger?
The 6 gallon (23 L) capacity suits a single-fixture or two-fixture restroom, an office suite washroom, or a spot beside one lavatory where the can gets serviced daily. For a high-volume public or stadium restroom with multiple towel dispensers, a larger floor or recessed receptacle is the better call.
8) Is the Bobrick B-9279 open top or does it have a lid?
Open top. Nothing to lift or push, which is what most high-turnover public restrooms want for paper towel disposal by the lavatory, but it does mean the contents are visible and it is not the unit to pick if you need a covered receptacle.
