Baldwin 8314031 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What does the Baldwin Estate 8314 cylinder collar actually do?
The Baldwin 8314 is a wrought brass collar that rings the mortise cylinder on the exterior face of the door. It covers the cylinder hole and the gap around the cylinder body, giving a finished look where the cylinder passes through the door or escutcheon. It is trim only, so it contains no locking parts and no cylinder.
2) Is the Baldwin 8314 cylinder collar meant for commercial doors?
It is a residential product in Baldwin's Estate Series, intended for entry doors on houses and high end residential work. For a commercial opening under a hardware schedule, use a cylinder collar or ring supplied for the commercial lock line you are specifying rather than this decorative Estate trim.
3) Will the 8314 collar match my other Baldwin Estate hardware?
It is part of the Estate Series, so it is built to sit alongside Estate handlesets and escutcheons. Matching comes down to finish: the 8314 is offered in 031 Non-Lacquered Brass, so pair it with 031 trim if you want it to blend. Against a polished and lacquered brass set it will read differently as it patinas.
4) Does the Baldwin 8314 come with a cylinder or mounting screws?
No. The 8314 is a collar only, a brass ring that surrounds the cylinder. You supply the mortise cylinder and the lock itself. Order the cylinder in the keyway and length your lock case and door thickness require.
