Baldwin Estate 8322 Mortise Cylinder

The Baldwin Estate 8321 mortise cylinder comes in eight lengths: 1, 1-1/8, 1-1/4, 1-3/8, 1-1/2, 1-5/8, 1-3/4 and 2 inches. Cylinder length is driven by how thick the door is and how far the lock case sits back from the face, so measure the existing cylinder from the shoulder to the back of the housing and match it. Too short and the cam will not reach the lock; too long and the face stands proud of the trim instead of sitting flush.

It is a C keyway, 5 pin cylinder, so it keys alike with other Baldwin C keyway cylinders. If the rest of the doors in the house are on Baldwin C keyway, a locksmith can pin this to the same key. If your existing hardware runs a different keyway, this one will not accept that key and you would need to rekey the openings to a common keyway.

Just the cylinder. The Estate 8321 is the brass keyed plug and housing that threads into a mortise lock case, not a complete lockset. You already need the mortise lock body and the trim (knob or lever, escutcheon) on the door. Buy this when you are rekeying, upgrading, or changing the finish of a cylinder in hardware that is already hung.

Fit depends on the thread and cam, not the brand name on the lock. This is a Baldwin Estate cylinder on the C keyway, sized from 1 inch to 2 inches. If the existing lock case takes a standard mortise cylinder in the right length and the cam matches what your lock body needs, it goes in. Pull the old cylinder and compare the cam shape and length before you order, because a cylinder that threads in but has the wrong cam will not retract the latch.

Five pins. That is the chamber count a locksmith works with when he pins it to your key, and it is what limits how deep a master key system can go on this cylinder.
